Title: Project Legends (Zelda Legends FPSMMORPG)
Post by: » Magic « on January 08, 2011, 11:00:11 AM
(http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9713441/legends/Wallpaper01.png)
After seeing potential in this gamemode(http://code.google.com/p/zeldalegends/ (http://code.google.com/p/zeldalegends/)) I decided to run it and fix up a small error in the lua

the thing is the gamemode has potential but the owner gave up on it a long time ago

So I was wondering if anybody would actually be interested to finish the GM off and have it run on rANdOm?

I need a modeler(was thinking of cake faic) to model player models
Also mapper etc, you get my point

Mapping is lowest priority, The GM comes first

Tomcat care to help with this?

Not sure if you want, but I might be able to find Ocarina of Time Sound Samples, and compose some 'custom' music.

That's really all I can do :c
Still want to be a project somehow.

Fuck yus

You're in

I already have in Mind where I want to start (Gerudo Valley), but I'm having difficulty finding a actual sample pack.

I might end up just tearing apart the original songs for samples if I can't find one.

Which will take me a while, and that somewhat dissapoints me, because I have the tune in mind and everything ;-;

------

Also, I can grab all the sounds for weapons, and various other items.

After looking a little more at the project, it would be the first completely finished MMORPG For garrysmod.

The biggest factor I see, is trying to keep it a relatively small filesize, along with the fact you'd want to make it shitty-pc safe.

My suggestion?

Have multiple servers running, with different sections of the map.

Also, what direction do you want the music to go? Keep it in the traditional Zelda style, or give it another genre's feel (Rock, Techno, w/e). I'll try to put together some different variations so you might be able to get an idea.

Heyas, I checked out the SVN and looked over the code... Really not much to it so far lol. Although it seems like it could be pretty interesting.

At the moment though there appears to be no actual game play design, just a tiny base to work from. From a code perspective I believe it would be wise to start out with a solid game play design and work from there.

I would perhaps be interested in writing some Lua for it, IF and only IF the community will help come up with a solid game play design that will actually be fun and addictive. Like any Zelda should be. ;)

So let's hear some good ideas!

So the first step would be to brainstorm different ideas for the project, right?

This is basically a MMORPG for the Zelda World.

My only concern is that every team that tried to do one of these is that they usually hit some sort of roadblock, or don't have enough time to devote to the project.

I can do some modeling. Not giant, complicated objects with over 9000 polygons, but some medium/minor stuff like knife's and swords and bombs and stuff. Good luck turning them into swep's :3

I pm'ed you my google account

I don't really know anything I could help with here,
but for the base concept idea, it could be something similar to UnderDone or whatever it was called.

Yes :)

Also my idea(excuse the iPaint)

Basically the wolf can choose 3 jump destinations with 512 distance between each location, allowing for wolf only areas

The selected jump points glow clientside

//I'm home now and can add stuff etc

Shit. I cant work them :C

I can attempt to add bones to them but there is no-way to change the default source 3rd person animations.

For that wolf attack/jump thingy, I could read-up on view models and create the same effect like it will show your hands moving for those moves and such. But i dont know about the lua. You gotta get your lua scripture to do that.

Okay, this is news to me, but the N64 ran Midi's.

Which is great, because now I can just rip samples from it.

I can start working on ambient tracks and such either tonight, or tomorrow.

I'll also compile some wolf sounds (howling, attacking, ambient, warnings, ect)

Alright, heres my goal for the weekend

Compile Wolf Sounds
- Ambient Distance
- Idle
- Alert
- Attacking
- Attacking hit
- Attacking miss
- hurt
(Let me know if source uses any other sounds for NPC's)
(Also, does source differentiate between attacks that hit, or miss?)

Figure out what ambient tracks I'm going to use and/or remake

Horror Tracks > Monsters in the distance, ect
Calm Tracks > No BGM, just ambient sounds like chirping, crickets, water, ect
Battle Tracks > ?
Generic Music > Variations of the original tracks + using original tracks.

I also have a Gerudo Valley remix that was ORIGINALLY in OOT, for the planned Arena level/area, but was later removed. Honestly, it sounded pretty damn good. I'll work on getting that uploaded when I have a chance.

I also want to know if you guys think I should just port the sounds from the original OOT, or use entirely new samples.

Preferably, using original samples, due to the fact that the game samples might be paid samples, and we'd be subject to copyright.
Then again, we're remaking a MMO version of the Zelda franchise, so copyright issues might not be a concern.

Maybe you should contact the original creator. He might be able to help a bit. also just let him know his gamemode has been revived.

Also I would like to try some mapping, if there is still space.

Voice acting too, if it is needed.

Edit: This is starting to sound a lot like a MMORPG. Maybe we should just make one out of this ;)

WHAT YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED A MMORPG BEFORE???

Let me break this down. Most MMORPG's are free roam, however, while you are free roaming, there are enemies. You kill these enemies to get exp. Once your exp bar fills up, you level up. Killing enemies usually drops money and other items. Using money you can buy in game items, like stronger weapons and better armor. Also, there are tons of NPC's that give you quests. These quests usually comprise of some dumbass shit like delivering a letter to some asshole, or some actually useful shit, like killing a certain amount of enemies, or obtaining a certain amount of quest-only items from an enemy. After completing a quest, you are rewarded with money, items, and exp.

Play Flyff. Rearry good example.

Here you go. I made you that bomb you wanted. I have the .smd's if anyone wants to make a swep out of it. I put it in the contents format and hopefully you'd put all the models and materials and crap in the LoZ folder. So it should be like garrysmod/garrysmod/gamemodes/<gm name here>/content/ ect. I'd be great if you guys me a list of stuff to do so I wont have to constantly keep uploading files to mediafire.

But if you do, then please find me a good texture or reference picture which I can work off of.

(Heh, I sorta forgot to smooth out the model so sorry if it's blocky-ish, I'll redo it if you want)

Just do a basic feathered arrow

and could you do the triforce both with and without the holder?

(without the holder we need the pieces to be seperate)

I'll compile bomb fuse+explosion sounds so you can make the swep.

Also, what does source prefer? Waves or Oggs?

You know, there's going to be a lot of files and stuff going on.

Maybe we should just release our own client?

Who knows.

But if it's going in the direction, I have a lot of step-sounds and such that would be great to replace with the original source ones.

____________________________________________

To whoever is going to code the swep for the bomb, I compiled five different bomb-explosions with a fuse pre-set.

I have them in four different sound quality variations (Low, Mid, High, and the source file), so that gives you a total of 20 different sound files to choose from.

http://www.mediafire.com/?15r1iawh5w2hn6m (http://www.mediafire.com/?15r1iawh5w2hn6m)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

-----------------------------------------------
Edit2:

Also, if anyone needs a custom sound, or wants a different type of explosion (Reverd/echo, longer fuse, seperate fuse, louder "Bang", quieter fuse, Whatever you need) then let me know.

-----------------------------------------------
Edit3:

I finished the sound files for the wolf. I rendered them at a medium-ish quality. 41 Files at a total of 2.52MB's uncompressed.

Anyhow, here's what I got (Let me know if I need to add specific sounds)

- 5 Alert sounds (Aware of your presense)
- 3 "Angry" sounds (Ready to attack, ect. Not sure where you would want to use it.)
- 5 Attacking Sounds
- 3 Biting Sounds
- 3 Death cries
- 3 Distance sounds (Idle when far away)
- 3 Eating sounds (Not sure what use)
- 2 Howling effects
- 3 hurt cries
- 5 Idle noises
- 5 "Searching" sounds (Alert, but unaware of presense? Again, not familiar with source sound req's)
- 1 Stepping sound (It's damn near impossible to find sounds of a paw walk :S )

Let me know if you need any others, or higher-quality ones.

http://www.mediafire.com/?koz6lxa6lxr8jll (http://www.mediafire.com/?koz6lxa6lxr8jll)

And again, if they're too loud/quiet or you want more of an echo/reverb/whatever, don't hesitate to ask.

Now what else? Bow effects?

-----------------------------------------------
Edit4:

I think I can rip the sound files from the original rom. Maybe not. Dunno yet. Would you want to use those?

-----------------------------------------------
Edit9001:

I can get direct rips of the music, but no audio samples. :c

But yeah, now we have full-quality songs from the game (Higher than anything you would find on youtube. Fucking 5000kbps bitrates nigga.

-----------------------------------------------
Edit 9002:

I also recommend we use the end credits song from the original game, as a introductory song

Ocarina of Time: End Credits (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCEYXAy897o#)

Or at least starting it at 2:40.

//nvm, I'll just edit the source file so we have a clear-cut kokiri remix, since thats the starting area.

Guys on my way home from school I thought of the most greatest idea ever.

If we are going to make this MMORPG themed, we should make it so that your character is able to choose 3 paths. Power, Courage, or Wisdom, which are the three traits of the Triforce.
Kinda like classes in MMORPG's.

Power uses primarily the strength trait, and weapons are comprised of heavy weapons such as Maces, Hammers, Battle Axes, ect.

Courage uses Agility, and weapons are Sword and Shield, Bow and Arrow. (Kinda like Link)

Wisdom uses Inteligence, and weapons are staffs, and magical abilities. (Kinda like Zelda)

Also Magic, will the daylight version of Hyrule Field have enemies too?

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK? GOOD IDEA??? :DD

By a re-arrange, I meant the way they would play.

Like I said, I would provide an example.

Also, trying to get the songs to be loop-able is being a bitch, since most of them have the little intro part.

Hmm I don't think we have people talking in zelda but we'll see lol

We still gotta code tonnes of NPC's, make the models and animate them =.=

//I found a useful thread in FP while searching for a modeller

http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1045895-How-sould-I-create-Ragdoll-Player-NPC-Character-model-for-Garry-s-Mod (http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1045895-How-sould-I-create-Ragdoll-Player-NPC-Character-model-for-Garry-s-Mod)

If cake faic want's to give this a try, it couldn't hurt ?

But yes - We need reskins of the Citizens to be able to use them as player models, NPC etc

I'll take it up if nobody offers, but then I has alot of work

I don't mind though

I am certified using SolidWorks and also have lots of experience with Inventor....

but I'll need you to actually convert the files. Neither programs saves using the .mdl extension...

first job for you to test you

model navi :3

and if you looked around you would find ALOT of Source MDL exporters for all sorts of programs not made for it, take propper as a demo - it makes a hammer made map style vmf and converts it into a prop

Wee nid 2 maps.

1 for Ocarina uf Time

1 for Majora's Mask.

I have a N64 emulator with both on it, so I can help the mappers if they need help with the geometry of the maps.

EDIT:
Interesting. I was fooling around with Milkshape and I discovered I can import AutoCAD drawings. Seeing as though I am a sexy beast with AutoCAD, we should be able to get plenty of modeling done :D

(note: AutoCAD is not free. My school just happens to own hundreds of free licenses though. This means I will need to connect to the network before to borrow a license before I can start modeling. This means I can't start until I go back to school...)

Well it's for an MMORPG or some shit so I'm assuming it's going to just be 1 map, not 2 seperate ones.

(I do think, however, that if you aren't making the castle, someone else will be. Just don't worry about it I guess.)

Each section of the map will be hosted on a seperate server to reduce stress on bandwidth, and increase FPS and such for the players. The hope is that when you move on to the next part of the map, the server will automatically transfer you to the next area in a standard loading screen fashion.

I already said that p.o

Plus there are areaportals so we could make it one huge map if we used em

@cheese just make the foundations of it e.g the bridge and walls, don't actually make the castle

Fuck. I'm done with milkshape unless someone wants to buy a registration key for me.

I can't save anything, even with the trial version (which interestingly means that there's no difference between the trial version and the real version because you can't do shit without a key anyway).

I'm going to try Blender and see if that works. I found mah own link now >:|

EDIT: Fuck this isn't going to work. Blender can't export in .SMD. I just need someone to find a file converter that can convert from either SolidWorks, AutoDesk Inventor, or AutoCAD to .SMD or whatever file you need.

PlayerTypes changed

It's now:

Link
Zelda
Navi

And will be based around OOT instead of OOT/TP mix

Also start work on instructions

btw here's a funny comic if you've played TP before

You choose your path(courage, wisdom, power) then you can't change until you get the triforce piece for that path

sound good or no?

Complete triforce

I only have a placeholder currently, Use the zelda/yellow & yellow2 texutres I made in the SVN

making some sigbars....

Can't you convert 2d into 3d? wouldn't be that hard...

about 30mm thick / half a grid line of hammer

Here:

@death couldn't think of anything else lol

Added a Demo background map, for anyone who wants it

It's in the SVN and requires the yellow1 and yellow2 files to be in your garrysmod dir

go into config folder and create autoexec.cfg - in it put "map_background triforce_menu"

Needs more effects but will do that later

Sheet. I can't do the triforce holder :(

I actually have been trying on the triforce itself but it keeps fucking up somehow. And I don't have any reference images to see how big it is. So can I haz another thing to model from a mapper or something or can someone post an ingame screen shot of the triforce?

One of the problems i thought of about mapping would be all of the custom textures... It would look weird if we all used different textures right? Someone should make a huge zelda texture pack for the whole mapping team to use.

Okay so I figured out how I can update the SVN on a schedule. 8) The problem is the gamemode doesn't work yet on the server (I can't see the sword). I noticed it does the same thing when in single player. Is that normal?

Oh and this doesn't seem to be a very demanding gamemode (specs wise) do you think a P4 3.0 Ghz with Hyper Threading and 1.5 GB ram will do? I used it for hosting a Gmod build server and it can take quite a lot. So this should be a piece of cake for it, right?

^ That.

Protip - Most builds or RP's where you have a lot of physics/npc's going around take up about 0.2-0.3mbps per user.

So really, just head over to speedtest.net , find out your speed, and devide that by 0.3 to find out how many players you can support.

//The SVN has messed up, So I gotta reset the resporitory - from this moment on it was version 209 we was at

let me reset it now...

--Reuploading the files

Market? Hmmm I guess so, though it seems challenging for me, since I am a beginner. I'll try.

yuzz! I'm tryna play zelda on emulator... taking wayy too long

lol

fail

I've found better, higher quality around steam-kinda compression(1024x1024, 512x512) etc

Plus because of the old materials names it was stopping me from committing

I have also sorted them out into Areas, So you know which ones are yours and you don't have to go through lists and lists

Done converting them to vtf, now removing the translucency shiet that happens when you batch convert

here the video:

hyrule castle market (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7dQ9HWu65Y#)

K so I got a problem.

In the market, all the windows are sort of concaved into the walls. The windows are not square either. Is there an easy to put the windows into the walls so that they concave inwards? 'Cause my method is going to take a very.

Also, I might work with texture and such from the texture pack. But it might take a while becuz it is over 3000 images (700 MB)
and then have to rename all of em.

I found a hd texture pack of all textures the game uses, to bad some of them are cutten intro tiles and have weird names so the emulator know where the texture should go. Anyway, I just merged 15 images of the hyrle map and got this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, I might work with texture and such from the texture pack. But it might take a while becuz it is over 3000 images (700 MB)
and then have to rename all of em.

Errr I already have the HD texture pack in the content folder of the SVN

Only what we need is in there

What type of textbox do you guys want?

An WoW style, bottom mounted screen-relative textbox, with global chats and colouring-per-chat

or

An RP style "over-the-head" textbox, hovering over the NPC/Players head in a small box which extends

I'd like an over-the-head text AND classic gmod textbox. I'd think it would be very useful in case you miss what someone says.

very very nice background, should be the logo!

Erm I some questions, I looked at the OP, but didn't find answers there (or I missed them).

1-Around how much space is this gonna take up? (I know your not sure yet, but give me an estimation)

2- Will this be a Fretta gamemode or will it take up it's own server?

3- Will this be compatible with SP?

Progress -

Hyrule Field - It's complete, but it feels quiet at some parts, like an instrument is missing or something. I plan on maybe duping a few trans and using different instruments to make it sound more "full".

Gerudo Valley - Complete, just the main guitar/bass track is idk. It sounds fine to me, but it's different from the game.

Zelda's Theme - Transcription is complete, and all the main tracks are finished, but I just can't find a good lead instrument. All the flutes and woodwind instruments sound out-of place, and I have yet to find a convincing Ocarina plugin .-.

Shop - 15% complete. Only a couple tracks have been transcribed like the lead, but it's coming along nicely.

I'll upload Hyrule Field and Gerudo Valley as unlisted in a minute. Still need to render a bunch of shit, but I thought I'd give an update.

Thats the thing though, it's all cranked up to max, and on top of that, theres so many damn note cuts, it makes it sound like it's only half a note when I use another instrument.

Basically, I'd need to re-make the background/bass from scratch ;~;

What's the progress on the EXP System?

I found a year-old code that was given up on.

Spoiler: exp_data.lua (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: exp_powerups.lua (click to show/hide)

Basically, every shot = 1EXP

When you level up, you gain +10 HP and +10 armor, along with specific weapons.

It feels more hiphop-ish now

We do want to keep the OOT style of things lol

I actually used Hip-Hop strings, only because those sounded the best.

I'll see if I can make a new drum loop that's a bit more South American (Maracas, that sort of thing). If not, I'll see how a loop made from acoustic South-African samples sound (Bongos, ect).

I doubt he'd abandon all the hard work that he and his team put on this.

I'm sure he'll keep working on it when he has more free time.

I'll be reviving it when edumacation dies

Education hasn't fully died, but because it's getting near XMas season work is calming down a lot :)

I've started work on some of the audio tracks, and I'll be looking for any help possible

So, any plans on when you MIGHT start coding again? I really want to see this gamemode  :(

I'm still down to compose music, as long as we actually make progress.

And I guess I can map now too.

I have a question. In Ocarina of Time, there is a path that leads from Hyrule Market to Hyrule Castle in one seamless path. However Magic, you told me that you wanted Hyrule Market and Hyrule castle to be two completely separate maps. How should I put Hyrule Castle into my Hyrule Market map without making it too big or too unrealistic? Also do you want the Temple of Time included in the Hyrule Market map?

And one more thing, (You don't have to do this if you don't want to.) The Project Legends textures for map making are mixed in with default HL2 textures.. Plus they don't have any specific names. Most of them are just named "zelda_000numberhere" or something like that. This makes finding appropriate textures a gigantic pain in the ass. So, if you have the time, could you organize these textures and send them to me?

Could you make the market all trashed like? You know, as if it were in the future (when you're adult link) and all the zombies were out (Zombies, L4D).

I hate to be that guy, but after reading through this it seems that there is no way for you to make a source MMORPG. How the heck could it even be done in source anyway? Especialy with the world being split up into seperate maps.

This is almost like BlackMesa, exept it seems you are doomed to fail.

It's possible to do it.

To travel from map-to-map, all you'd have to do is rig up a trigger (like at the entrance of the Hyrule Market) that sends the command "connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:27xxx", along with a possible password to the clients console .-.

The only reason it's dead right now is because magic just lost interest in it, and since he was the project leader, all production has basically stopped.

Make it happen guys.

MAKE IT HAPPEN.

But seriously, this would be a very very awesome gamemode if you guys can complete it. It would attract a bunch of new players to the rNd servers.

How doth Gerudo Valley sound?

Add them to CStrike, find the textures you want to use and PakRat will automatically detect and add them to the bsp later on

For the entry, have the drawbridge in the upright position with a trigger teleport outlining it

Cheese has been extremely inactive recently. I don't think he'll be able to complete it anytime soon.

I can definitely do Gerudo Valley. I'll work on it this upcoming month.

I know I've abandoned my mapping duty like twice now.
If you can provide textures for the areas needed, I can make something.

While this is an old thread, and I'm very sorry for bumping.

But I honestly don't want this amazing creation/idea to go to waste.

I feel that we should finish what we started (EVEN THOUGH IM NOT IN IT).
I would like to be a mapper.

And like I said. I feel like we should continue with this idea and try to continue with whatever resources we may have

Once again please don't kill me for bumpin lol
