I don't really have insomnia, but I do have a horrible sleeping pattern that I try to get under control, some nights I just can't fall asleep, usually it's just from things I have on my mind.

No, but I have to force myself to sleep past 7 AM. I'm pretty sure it is because of sunlight.

I usually aim to go to sleep around 9PM, because it takes me an hour to actually sleep.

Pretty similar. Some nights I can finally get in bed at 11 pm, others can be at 4am... and when I do I can't sleep because always just have random thoughts in my mind keeping me awake..

Take melatonin.

Doesn't the sun come up at like 6?

I'm never sleepy, but I fall asleep after an hour or so  :-[

Yea always takes me a good half hour or so for me... shit sucks. I wish I was like some people who just lay there head down and fall asleep instantly.

Take melatonin.

I hear pills aren't really worth taking. Side effects and stuff like that.

Melatonin does help but it's by no means a complete solution.
I do get insomnia a decent amount though. Fucking sucks, not much to do though.

Yea. It's just one of those you kinda gotta deal with it.

Could take meds but it'd probably cause more problems then solve.

Does that really work? Do I take it before or after brushing teeth?

Night light ?

How would a night light help? I need my room pitch black to sleep.

Celery? Never heard of that. What's in them that does that?

I hate healthy food... but if it'd make me sleep better then I guess it could be worth it...  and bonus of healthiness lol.

Celery is negative calories. It takes more energy to process than it gives your body.
Also some science. And a bit of magic.

My thoughts go on for ever. "Okay think about nothing... but that's impossible? I mean the only time you are thinking about nothing is when you are not thinking right?  Okay how about just think about a white wall.... like Kingdom Hearts 2. How the fuck was that room so white anyways? Did seriously no one ever spill a drink or food in that room? A drink doesn't sound to bad right now, I am kinda thirsty I'd like some water, speaking of water it might rain this week right? Can't remember, the last time I've seen rain. Speaking of not seeing stuff for awhile, you know who else I haven't seen for awhile-"

It just keeps going and going! And at some point I think my brain just bitch slaps itself midconversartion so I shut up.

I actually haven't heard someone with the same problem before. I'm really the exact same to the point that it can cause a decent amount of problems. The only time I actually sleep is when I'm like completely wiped out and exhausted in some way and my body just shuts down while I'm in the process of thinking. But yea, my mind is always going constantly and I'm literally never not thinking of something. The thought of actually having a decent moment without it and trying to actually makes me anxious and does often prevent me from sleeping. I probably sound psychotic or something now but oh well.

And I was really wanting to get sleeping pills before to help with that shit because it's really debilitating at some points but there's really no safe way of doing that. Especially because of my age. A lot of sleeping pills require you to be at least 18 and they still cause problems and it's still very easy to get addicted to them. I even had loads of tests done before though to see if there was any physical problem and there wasn't. Instead I got prescribed some minor anti-depressants a quite a while ago which was supposed to try to level out some hormones or some shit even though I wasn't depressed. Made no change.

Back to what people are recommending though. They're all generally minor aids when it comes to that. Though you should do most of those simply because it's healthy and may actually give you a better/longer rem sleep like melatonin. But yea, just don't go thinking "oh if I do all these things at once my problem should be solved!" because unfortunately, it won't. I think the best thing that you can do if you want a quick solution though is to work out really hard and get yourself exhausted. Like, to the point that your body aches if possible. Obviously to a healthy extent though. Oddly enough it hasn't actually been helping me recently though. At first it did, now it doesn't seem to really make any change. Still worth a try and either way it'll improve your overall health which is obviously good but just being overall healthy should improve your sleeping too. In general it allows your body to regenerate better with full rem sleep and such, though it might not necessarily help you falling to sleep.

Also you should check out kava roots. You should be able to find them in pills or even tea or something. It's supposed to help similarly to how melatonin does but I haven't tried it yet.

"The only time I actually sleep is when I'm like completely wiped out and exhausted in some way"
100% the exact same way for me. The only time I can ever fall straight asleep is when I've been up for 24+ hours. Maybe I just always have too much energy... idk.

Insomnia isn't really worth taking pills for and such from what I've heard.(Most things are since the side effects are a lot worse like nightmares and other crap.) I've had problems sleeping ever since I was a kid. It can take 20-50 minutes for me to sleep. It's awful when it's been an hour and I'm still laying in bed, at that point I usually get up and do something for an hour or so figuring it's not time.

Yea. I think I will try some of them like the milk thing and working out thing(usually I'm always super comfy in bed, so I don't get  up, maybe should do it before getting in bed.); I imagine though in time like you mentioned, I'd grow use to it and it'd no longer work.

Gah, I hate tea. I have heard it does help though.
I'm supposed to drink/eat all this stuff before brushing my teeth right? lol

I've heard that exercising before going to bed isn't very good for your muscles, though it would depend on how hard or for how long would you do it.

Problems with sunrise? Move up here.

Sun currently rising at 10:30am and setting at ~3:15 pm. Tho you are screwed in the summer.

As for insomnia, work on a boat, the rumbling of the engines puts just about anyone right to sleep.  ;D

Sometimes.

Might be like how some of you just have bad sleeping patters, but I'm pretty sure I've managed to up my internal clock's ability to determine luminescence.

I could fall asleep under a giant stage light.

Or the Sun. Or strobe lights.

I think I had insomnia for a while, though. Didn't try pills or anything. But now I'm able to take 'power naps' and wake up autonomously at any morning hour as if I've had a great night's sleep/Like I never even slept/Like I didn't need to sleep/I blinked. Maybe I have insomnia and don't realize that I'm still awake while 'sleeping'.

I read somewhere that it was a negative-calorie food, and takes energy away from you, rather than giving it.

http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=99710 (http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=99710)

I read somewhere that it was a negative-calorie food, and takes energy away from you, rather than giving it.

It is, most of the calories in celery are in the cellulose, which our bodies cant really process. So it takes more energy to digest than it provides to us.
Though in reality, you could eat celery all day and it wouldn't have much of an effect, since its a small amount of negative calories.  You could equal the same calorie loss by sleeping all day.
Drinking a glass of cold water will give you more negative calories than celery, since the drop in your core body temp will take more calories to burn than eating celery.

As for a insomnia solution, if it works w/e it works. But I wouldn't expect miracles.

Occasional insomnia in teenagers is relatively common, and in most cases greatly reduces in intensity some time after the age of 18.

If you have chronic insomnia ( frequently awake for days or weeks at a time), don't ask us for help, go to a specialist doctor in the area.

If it's not a frequent, try:
- Going to sleep at regular times
- Exercising earlier in the day

Insomnia is a tough one, since it is often a mix between biological problems, and mental problems.

I also occasionally get the issue where you just don't stop thinking about things and it keeps you awake, I've learned how to tell my mind to stfu, but It still gets me every once in a while.

A good labor intensive job might help, since the work that allows you to go into autopilot tends to help teach you to take your mind off things. That + the physical exhaustion might reset you into a good sleep schedule.

;)
Also, I didn't mean working out before going to bed. You're going to want to do it way earlier or it's going to have the opposite affect.
Also, for me I can literally lay awake the whole night when it's really bad. It's not too uncommon for me to go to bed at like 11:00 and get up at 8:00 without any sleep. Though I don't usually have it quite that bad during school time because I'm just always tired so it takes less time.

Buuut back to the celery, I don't think eating that would help you sleep really... It's just healthy. Calorie loss can be good of course but it's not really going to help you sleep. At least not from what I know. It's the muscle development and cardio stuff that gets you tired and will help with rem sleep and such, not just pure weight loss.

Luckily I didn't get any abnormal sleep genes, but my brother on the other hand, will sleep walk to my door with half open eyes and deny being asleep then carry on a full conversation.

He's also moved his mattress into the bathroom and made frosting while asleep.  The next morning he doesn't remember any of it.

I started locking my bedroom door at night when I lived at home lol.
