Got a friend, he is looking to get into PC gaming.
He wants a good computer (like, forward compatible with future games good; i told him no. lol) and I know nothing about them.
SO
once again, I am enlisting the help of you fine peoples
and asking;

Can you help suggest a good, MAXIMUM $750 USD computer? Future upgradability is a must, because he doesn't know specifically what he wants yet.

I asked him "What sort of games do you want to run well?"
to which he replied "I don't know, theres alot of them"
so
yeahidon'tknow

He was looking at a prefab and said this
Quote

me: well its not the best
but
it works

Him: right, whats the best for 750 though

me: building yourself would be

him: yeah good point
but im lazy
slash dont really want to risk a gamecard or motherboard not working together
or something like that

me: no no
you won't do that
just check compatibility before you buy

him: and also for some parts i dont know whats good and whats almost the best

What Snivy posted right there is pretty good, if not the best.

Although if your friend's limit is capped at $750, not a dime over, you could choose all the parts separately and choose a cheaper and faster Phenom II Quad core and save $50-60 over that Hex Core Phenom II.

What would be the difference in performance for that? The quad core vs. hex core... why is the quad faster, why is the hex "better"
in both short term and long term, please

cake face, correct me if I'm wrong, but 6 slow cores vs 4 faster cores, and most games only use 1 or 2 cores.

With hex core you will probably be able to multitask much more (but you will still be able to a lot with quad core).

Like what with Supertoaster stated, if your friend is devoting the PC toward gaming and if he plays a lot of games, you don't really need to worry about the CPU much since it only makes up like 20% of the performance. It's your graphics card that does all of the heavy shit and determines the performance.

In various benchmark tests I've read about and looked at, the quad core is actually faster than the hex core in gaming terms. The hex core is if your friend balances multitasking a long with gaming. I don't know why it is that, just I think AMD focused the hex core on more multitasking.

Just if you're going to want to save the $50 and keep it under $750 exactly, might as well get the faster CPU while at it. But that doesn't mean that the hex is shitty. You wouldn't really notice the difference between the two. I just pointed that out in-case if Snivy's bundle goes over the limit and you have to find some other combo/pick out parts individually.

You only need power house cpu's for emulators and even then the bulk of the strain is put on your ram and graphics. If he wants a future compatible gamer a decent quad core cpu reliable ram and at least a gtx460 or 5750. For the vague description it can be built for around 500 no prob.
