Serious question.

I'm aware that people with windows vista can upgrade to windows 7 with a program that Microsoft generously provided, But i'm worried if its really safe.
I've heard from some people that when they did it, it slowed their computer down a lot.
I've also heard people saying that it corrupted their files.

So what i'm asking is:
Has anyone upgraded to windows 7? If so, reassure me that its safe.

Heres the site if you're interested to read about it:

Also, Sorry about the double topic posts.
Not sure if thats bad or not?

Peetah:
I would say go for clean install cause it will assure 100% operation.
You should ONLY go for upgrade if you are unable to transfer files or somehow unable to reinstall programs.
You should backup your files anyways when upgrading so your better off with a clean install.

I tried to upgrade my mom's laptop to windows 7 but it said it couldn't do it so I had to clean install. But IMO clean install is the way to go.

So it all worked out fine?
Didn't get really slow or anything?

Xrain:
I upgraded from vista to win7, as the student discount only applied for win7 upgrades.

Like any serious overhaul like upgrading the OS you should always create a backup of your important files.

So backup your files, do the upgrade, if anything corrupts, no harm done.

My computer has been running faster and more stable since the upgrade.
