Err i heard depending on the version of the wii you have softmodding it can really fuck it up. and you can't update your wii anymore... if you really want to do it get the chip it costs more like $50 but it saves 1000's in the long run.

It's also possible to do a NAND backup of your wii and copy the file to your hard drive, so you have a permanent restore point in case you fuck anything up.

Trust me, I've soft-modded more than my own wii, and it's really not that hard if you know what you're doing.

death, here's the thing
you put those files on an SD card
before ANYTHING, it makes a NAND backup of your wii for you
if you dick it up, just restore and profit

no you buy the chip online wait for it to come should take about 30 mins to instal it... but ya if you don't know how to do that then i can see the problem...
