See, I tested it with alpha, and block regen and shit was so horrible, it wasn't worth it.

Yet, running a beta server seems a lot more better. I haven't had a single issue with block regen, or expanding the map. I just need to get some people who can help me test the above listed, considering I have a lower ping because I'm next to the server.

Like how in GMOD, props are serversided. If you spawn something, the exact location of that prop is on the server, and is uploaded to all the users connected.

If I was to spawn a billion props on a server, it won't matter if im on the same connection or another one. The calculations are run on the server, not my own computer, thus I would see and experience the lag too.

I want people to help me test by connecting externally. The server can obviously handle most stuff fine. With one player.

tl;dr
Server runs fine. Nid ppl 2 do stress tests.

I tested a 1.2.6 server on my 8GB Quad core rig.

Used 812MB's on a fresh map, no plugins.

Tested out a 1.1_02 beta on the same rig

Used 142MB's on a fresh map, no plugins.

The only concern I have is expanding the map, which is the only thing that lags the server. There is NO block regen at all.

Plus, if this works out, in two weeks, I can upgrade the same rig to 2GB ram with a faster processor.

Nope just 512 will do if you know how to host a server properly.

Testings over for now.

The only issue we seemed to have wasn't block removing, but block creation.

We could remove stuff fine, and talking through text was almost instant, along with commands.

But things like cobblestone generators took a while.

And when we would place water over large areas, it would spread fine, but when we removed the spring tile, it would take a while to decipate.

So I think my final verdict is just to upgrade the ram and use this instead of the VPN.

Thanks to everyone that helped test!

Would've helped but I've been online and offline all day haven't had time to really sit down and do anything Lol

Also some of the problems you're facing could just be Notch problem i heard alot of errors started when it switched to Beta.

Hey0 works fine BTW.

c:

And maybe, but I played beta for a while in SP, and it seems fine, so these issues would be SMP related. DiZ is gonna host the server on his PC for the next two weeks until I can upgrade the ram.

I have 50$ in the process of getting into my paypal account. It usually takes a week for it to clear.

I'm betting I'll get it on the 31'st or the 1st.

At which point, I'll order 2GB's of ram off e-bay or some other website, and will take another week to ship.

As said in the OP, it's vanilla and we haven't built much except a rather small house.

the new one with the ccobble stone generator at spawn, yet the cobblestone generator won't work i think its because its block protected or w/e
