What do you use, auto or manual?

Depends really.

Not really, any new car will be cheaper if it's in manual (as in true stick shift, not paddle shift) than opposed to auto. A large portion of them outlive auto transmissions/car life and are a lot cheaper to fix and maintain transmission wise. If you change your gear oil as recommended, the only thing you really gotta worry about is the clutch, if you know how to drive proper and not peel out at every stoplight, you normally gotta change the clutch every 100k+ miles. (thankfully for my truck a new clutch only costs $60)

The only thing that's cool about autos today is that they finally caught up with torque converter lock technology and get same gas mileage as a manual.

idk how but my mom had to spend $1300 to replace the clutch in her car after my brother drove it for a few months lol

Wuuuuuuuuut. For that price I'm assuming her car is FWD. They musta had to like, pull out the whole engine or something. For $1300 I can see that being for most FWD cars, since you basically gotta pull out the whole transmission and sometimes the engine. Did your bro properly learn it after that?

Cake face protip: If you're looking for cars on a budget, you might also want to aim for a car with a RWD (rear wheel drive) platform. Lot easier for mechanics to work on and not pull out the whole engine and charge you up the ass for repairs. (If you're in Europe...uh, good luck)
