« on: November 26, 2012, 11:32:54 AM »

I know I posted a thread about this before but I'm wondering if I can update my BIOS from windows. Without going into the DOS environment?
Literally from windows...?

*EDIT*

ASUS Tek M5A88-M Motherboard.
BIOS Version/Date   American Megatrends Inc. 0801, 18/11/2011
I'm aware that I have EZFlash but I still want to know if I can VIA windows.

There are a few new motherboards that are starting to support this feature.
I honestly would not recommend it. Simply because if windows ever crashes mid update it can brick your motherboard.

Just take the time and use a flash drive to do it with a dos loader. Yes it is more of a pain, but you should only need to flash your bios a few times in its lifetime.

Well, I have an old Dell laptop that flashed the BIOS just fine.
But yeah. You have a chance to brick it.

If it's not broken don't fix it.

I had to recently update. Went without a hiccup.

Depending on your motherboard you'll have to find the specified way to do it. There are too many different ways with the new hardware.

Actually it is broken(somewhat). I need to update my BIOS as my CPU(AMD FX 8120 8 core 3.10GHz) is unsupported with certain games and updating BIOS tends to fix it.

I do really NEED to do it.

Don't you have a usb port on your computer?
Or a CD drive?

Just use the DOS flash utility with either.

If the manufacturer only provides bios updates that execute from windows, then use them. I don't recommend surfing the internet at the same time, or playing games when you do it; It will work fine.
