Yes, you will need a program to render out your videos. Fraps creates massive files (3-4GB for a couple of minutes for myself) which of course, will take almost a day to upload.
There's stuff like Vegas Pro out there but if you can't be bothered you can always use shitty windows movie maker.

Bandicam, but its almost as fraps but less laggy, and yes you need to pay for it.

Can always find a torrent...

You can just pingaz Fraps or shit.

Make sure you actually like the game you're doing LP's for. I tried it and I didn't like it, so I stopped like after a few weeks/

Ever hear of TotalHalibut? In one of the questions-he-got-from-Reddit-awnsering-videos he made at some point, he answers the question which is roughly:

"What recording thing do you use?"

If you can find that video, you will get a great answer.

fraps is fine, just get a file converter to convert the avi files to something that is compatible with your editing program, which also reduces the file size. I use http://www.converterlite.com/
