Just to be on topic for a bit, ideally Christians are not supposed to hate gays, because homosexuality is just another sin. But many contemporary Christians are more concerned with judging others rather than acting 'Christ-like', ergo treating others with care and love despite their sins (including homosexuality). God would hate homosexuality just about as much as he'd hate any other sin such as lying or stealing. So, when Christians shun gays or single them out for condemnation, they themselves are not following their own strictures and are in the wrong.
Just wanted to clear that up for those who are under the impression that the religion itself supports the hate. Though being a gay Christian is a contradiction because the religion does not support using forgiveness as an excuse to actively sin, whether it's homosexuality or lying or stealing or murdering, etc.
