Intelligent Discussion: Current Gen Gaming

I'd rather put this in this board so we can have a nice, lovely discussion on what is wrong with today's current gaming market.

From my view point:

No one releases a full game anymore without putting the other 50% out on DLC which will total up to more than or equal to the original game value. So you're basically paying for full two games.

Corporations start rolling out stupid shit like premium subscriptions where you pay for the full game again, just to get a bunch of maps and some stupid unique combat knife/assault rifle.

The whole gaming market is directed toward FPS games, no paying attention to anything else other than exercise games and retarded motion games.

Large Corporations (EA, Activsion ect.) like to shit out the same game and slap a new box on them and sell them for $60, knowing that casuals/13 year old kids will keep on buying them, just because it has a name such as "Call of Duty" or "Need for Speed".

I'd love to go more in-dept with this if necessary. Now post your opinions about the current gen market.

My biggest question about this generation of gaming is : When will kids realize they are buying horrible crappy products? I mean, It's like if there's a gun and it shoots with good graphics included it's a good game.

Thank you Marie for the sprite.

Eventually they'll catch onto it with the same fucking CoD game every year (Seriously, when was the last time they actually took the time to change a few game mechanics?) and stop buying their shit.

People stop buying shit from EA and other corps

They begin to lose profit

Eventually start to go down

Once EA and other shitholes like Activision are out of the picture, indie developers can finally come out of the caves without fear of being bought out/ran outta competition

Actual good video games will flourish the market once again until an indie developer grows into another EA, then the cycle repeats.

But that sure as hell won't happen for a long time.

Also if EA realizes they're making less profit, I'm pretty sure they might start putting more efforts in the games they publish... Although that might end up like another CoD series game, good at first, then horrible as more sequels come out.

Oh will there ever be a perfect game company.

Thank you Marie for the sprite.

The things your griping about happen almost exclusively with a EA and Activision, aka, not the ENTIRE gaming industry. No other company but EA would do cash grabs like these without an uproar because EA doesn't give a shit about its reputation and Activision knows that it will always have the little kiddies buy up whatever it shits out every year.

DLC for the most part is fair:

-The game is released with enough content to constitute a game
-The developers decide to make more for the game post-release
-They charge for it

That's not a bad practice when it is reasonably priced. But when you attempt to sell it at a price higher than the game itself, then that's a problem and like I said, no one but EA and Activision have done it and gone out unscathed.

Here in Australia, they release the latest Call of Duty (on console) for $120, the "limited edition" for $160 and that "prestige edition" for $240. All it came with was a remote control car. And you guys think you have it bad.

 ed on "No one releases a full game anymore"

Really now. All of a sudden you pay for your game and you have to pay for more shit to have a better experience. And what's worse is that it isn't free. That kind of marketing is for MMOs. Not full solid games, that you pay around 30-50 dollars with.

The times when you should release an expansion pack is when your fans really like the game and want more experience of it. Now they just release 1/4th of the game while the other parts are still being made.

True. But just when like 9 or 8 years ago where you could thrive off of a PS2/Gamecube/Xbox Game for months...even years without the need for DLC, and look at today's market where you can beat games within a week and have an option buy DLC to keep replenishing the gameplay...just kinda sad that you can't play games like you could anymore.

I have to say that Bethesda and Relic are doing it right in the DLC department.
And Valve is just Valve.

Pfft, Valve doesn't even need DLC, they use the wonderful tactic (that so many compnies despise) of releasing mod tools to users can build and create their own content and share it with everyone for free. So generally, a valve game will never truly get stale as there's always going to be mods for it.

8 or 9 years ago, barely anything was connected to the internet so there's no reason to say that without DLC or with DLC could've changed anything. That's still true today, there's games that don't have DLC that still thrive, namely Amnesia, Minecraft, etc. and there's games that don't thrive, same as 8 or 9 years ago.

And you have to understand that developers can't just put everything they want into a game. If you listen to commentaries, they talk about how they could've added more but there is only a limited time and budget. Not to say that all developers are like this, but most of them.

Sums it up:

Well Sony is losing money, Microsoft is going casual and Nintendo has gone casual. Only place to turn is PC gaming which is kind of a good thing and kind of a bad thing (PC gaming is booming, not dying. But new players will flood servers with noobs).
Dunno, I think eventually at the rate EA is going we'll be getting games made by machines all on one engine just using a randomizer to change variables.
