I'd of said:

"DO IT MAN DO IT"

But being practical enough for your first car...

Don't do it yet.

Do it when you have your own personal JetPack.

Honestally, I would save up some more money and buy a car when you get your restricted license. The DeLorean would be good for a novelty car, but don't get it ask your first car. Get something that isn't a piece of shit and has good mileage.

Actually you should get a car that's a piece of shit as your first car since you'll most likely break it or fuck it up in some other way.

If you know how to drive, then you don't need to get a piece of shit. I'm not saying to get a Ferrari as your first car, but to get something that is reliable and won't break as soon as you buy it.

Actually you do wanna get a cheap, piece of shit for around $2-3k. Sometimes you'll actually be the good driver and someone else would come along and fuck up your ride for you.

Something like a used Honda or a used 80's American car.

What I'm trying to say is that it's better to buy a car that's 2 time as expense as a pos car that will break 10 times easier. You end up saving money in the long run, unless you are a derp driving.

First car should be something cheap and reliable, and you will probably crash it. DeLorean is a very rare car and even though it looks awesome its as slow as a Prius (tiny bit slower). If you are into cars and you want something awesome (and you have enough money which you should if you wanted to get yourself a 30 thousand dollar DeLorean) the Honda Nsx is reliable and looks awesome not to mention the fact that it drivers car but then again it costs around 25k. Acura Integra or a Honda Civic is a great choice, Acura Integra was in 10 best list for car and driver (car magazine) a couple times same with the civic. And if you really wanna risk it a Nissan 300zx is just an awesome car and im pretty sure its not that reliable but its a Nissan so it cant be to bad. But that's if you wanna risk it if you have around 20 thousand dollars to spend on a car and you want something that handles nicely and looks good get a Mazda Maita, or Volkswagen Golf (Gti), or the honda civic (im talkng about the new cars). New cars are alot more reliable and you can get a warranty stuff like that its probably the best choice. But then again 20 thousand is a lot for a first car maybe get a cheap 17000 dollar car and from what i heard ford focus is really good, I drove the Mitsubishi Lancer (NOT the EVO) and i fell in love with that car but its a 3 year old model which is gonna get updated soon. Hyundai has a couple of good choices.

If you have enough money here is a comparison of fun to drive little cars, give you a little bit more info about the cars.

My dad owned a 1995 Nissan Altima and that car was just plain amazing didnt have that many problems and had over 300000 miles on it. Im gonna warn you don't get any old American cars and Toyota and Honda are really your best bet for something really cheap and reliable no matter how boring it is.

One more thing don't get a big SUV just a waste of gas and they get bad mileage not to mention the fact that there not that reliable. DONT get a ford mustang used cause my friend has one and it just has so many problems.
This is what i heard from people when i was looking for a car as a teen, and people who know about cars always told me that a new car (if you have enough money) is a much better choice then used because it wont break down. No matter what car you get if its old it will break down and if you don't do your research you will spend more money repairing the car then you spent buying it. So be careful buying used. Also something really awesome DeLorean Motor Company is releasing a electric DeLorean but it costs above 100k and it can go 0 to 60 in under 8 seconds much better then before and has a range of 100 miles. Sorry i wrote so much :(.

Also i forgot to mention DeLorean failed because while producing the car there were many problems with the parts they were gonna use and so it took them a long time to make the car and the car just required a lot of money to make more then a 100 million dollars. Then the fact that production of the car was delayed for 2 years because of budget problems. And yes there were drug trafficking charges and the car itself was unreliable from what I have read but it was a special car and around only 100 were produced at the time.
