I won't say what it is, a few of you know and most of you don't, but just tell me your strategies for keeping yourself distracted.
-
It takes determination. Will power. If you can learn it, great. Most people can't.
-
Depends on what it is.

uh
Let's establish that it's bad, and I need to stop.
I don't know what else I could possibly tell you without giving it away.

Fapping?
-
Fapping?
Physically bad, not ethically bad.

Why not give it away?

Why not give it away?
eh
I didn't feel like posting in the first place, but I thought someone else might have advice for something else they had to stop. I don't see how it makes a difference.
-
Why not give it away?
Its obviously personal. Stop asking.

Sorry mother.

Listen to cheerful music. Talk to people and joke around and don't think about anything else other than having fun while talking with them.
When you're not doing these things, daydream. I daydream almost 24/7 how things that could be and things that I would want. Sure, you may not concentrate on anything but it gets you off your habit and gives you a cheerful outlook on things.
-
change it for something not that bad, then leave that behind and there ya go.
-
What I do to get over it (mine), is constantly try to be involved with other things, as I've figured out that really talking to friends or others, and doing activities with them, actually relieves whatever you're going for.
It can be VERY hard to stop a bad habit, and sometimes it can be close to impossible for a long amount of time.
Try not to do anything related to it, or it WILL come back immediately.

focus on positive goals in life, do something productive like your homework or cleaing your room and hanging out with your family. WORK OUT exercise will make you feel awsome no matter what its a proven fact.
use lotion or something if its fapping. but you might want to fap to porn lol if its that, it will ruin your sex life, thats a proven fact also. just in case its fapping lol.
hope this helps :hellokitty:

I'd go toward a creative hobby, like learning an instrument. Learning the Piano or a Guitar is a great way to start off.

well
that's the problem

Depends on what the habit is, I'm not asking what the habit is but. some habits are easier to break than others and the longer you've had the habit the harder it is to break like smoking. There's no 100% way to break a habit, it takes determination and may take a counselor.
Best advice I can give is:
1. Slowly work away from the habit. If you try to break it immediately your going to have a harder time, I take it that the habit is important to get rid of immediately, but it takes time no matter what people say.
2. Replace the habit with something else. Be it hanging out with friends more often, doing something else more enjoyable or pick up something that is fun (no not flapping) like golf or getting fit. Just something to get it off your mind.
3. Support be it friends, family or whatever. Need someone to see you though the habit so you don't try going back. This helps on hard cases where you feel its too rough to stop. I know there's some habits you don't want to share what they are but having a best friend to be there and see you though it means alot.

well

Yeah. You and I, gamefreak. Same situation, different problem.
I suggest you talk to Devie.
-
Easiest way is to put off your bad habbit for a while and replace it with a different and better one. :)
-
If it's something like nail-biting, it just takes sheer cold turkey.
otherwise, i don't really know
-
Ive heard something like it takes a month to make a habbit so it takes a month to break that habbit.
But yea try to find something that will distract you from your habbit, like a sport, go outside and walk,
oragami, or any other hobby you can think of.

no sir, i went 2 months without and started again
and then i made this thread
-
I heard it took like 21 days or something to get over the hill of breaking the bad habit (the hardest part). After that, it was easy.
I'll input my story once I get back home.
-
so is the issue smoking or drugs? if not why dont u just hint at it. nobody can help if nobody knows what the habbit is

Some people know, and he just doesn't want to let everyone know something personal most likely.

You do. I do. Don does.

It is very very very hard for me personally to break bad habits. I lack the motivation to quit usually though.
What works best is just constantly telling myself to get it over with now. I usually try to think of the positives that will come afterwards once I break said habit.
This doesn't always work for me, but like said, it's what works best for me.

:xmastree: or :pacman: which is it bc i know a good solution for both. i smoked :xmastree: for pretty much 16 years straight everyday. talk to me brother. theres lots of ways to stop easy.

God damn it, if you can't help him without knowing the habit, you can't help him knowing it either.

So whether you study for a test or don't, you'll still fail?

It's different, it's not a test.

Okay, so what's your point?

So whether you study for a test or don't, you'll still fail?
That is completely unrelated.

Okay, I'm not going to argue with someone who doesn't get it, sorry.

Foofoo, a more accurate analogy would be "If you're a shitty test-taker you'll fail whether you study or not".
