Cake's computer tail of fail.
« on: July 15, 2010, 09:01:41 PM »
Oh hai thar. I recently did a big major update to my computer. And here's how it went:

HURRAY ARRIVED AT FRY'S!

HURRAY THEY HAD ALL MY PARTS (but the mobo) IN STOCK!

...Didnt bring enough money. Online I calculated the total for these items:

AMD Phenom ii X6
Some 500w PSU with BLUE LED's
2gb ddr2 800 ram
Some fancy Gigabyte motherboard.

Total I calculated was $319. But boy did that change.

They had my PSU, thats good. It was open but yea. They didnt have my Gigabyte motherboard BUT had a cheaper, ASUS mobo. No biggy. But then I was told that my compaq case would not fit the shit. Fuck. I needed to buy a new case so I had to pull out $40 for some shitty, non-brand case from fry's. So I had to DROP the Phenom ii x6 and go with a Phenom ii x4 :(. God dammit.

Yea yea paid everything and went home.

Almost jizzing from excitement, I quickly and carefully tear at the boxes. At first the CPU, the instructions were not that helpful. I did not know which side to put the heatsink in. To I had to tear it from the cpu and re-arrange it until I got a perfect fit. Installed rest of mobo shit.

But do to the shitty case, THE RAISERS WERE NOT IN THE RIGHT ORDER! Fawk. I had to use a pair of pliers and unscrew the jumper's and re-order them. I got all but one down.

Installing the PSU. It was hell. Due to the shitty case, THE FUCKING PSU DID NOT FIT IN ITS SLOT. I had to spend 2 hours trying to figure this out! But with angled, un-straighten screws, i got it to work. Now its tiem for the HDD. IT DID NOT FIT IN RIGHT! These fucking slits are rising from the bottom of the case which I had to bend down to get the HDD. It scratched the Side of the HDD, but fit. Screwed 1 with screw since I could not access the fucking holes DUE TO THE HORRID DESIGNED CASE.

DVD drive time. At first Due to the fail case, it was sticking like a half of an inch out. Then I released I put it a slot too high from the IDE cable. God dammit! I had to go through hell removing it. Scratched the sides like crazy and dropped it to a panel below. Still sticking out.

I hate this case. I cant tell what the brand is or wut model it is as it did not say. THEY DIDNT EVEN ADD THE CORRECT SIZE FOR THE DVD DRIVE.

Now upon screwing with the power button plug-ins and wut. Its time for the truth or fail. It failed. I turned it on, it made some hiss sound and stood thar, still. Not a fan rotating in sight. Spent 30 minutes figuring out what the fuck happened. Turns out it was the POWER SUPPLY.

The PSU came in an open box, so I cant expect much. Good thing the case came with some shitty 380w one. It's doin just fine.

Then when installing the graphics card, THE DUMBASS'S WHO MADE THE CASE FAILED TO CORRECTLY ALIGN THE PCI-E SLOT WITH THE BRACKET MOUNT. I had to tear out some piece in the middle of 2 mounts (good-bye warranty) just to fit the graphics card.

After all of that, 6+ hours of building the PC. I finally got it to work. At first USB DID NOT FUCKING WORK AND IT ONLY HAD 1 PS/2 CONNECTOR! LIKE WTF!. Bla bla bla, windows wants to reactivate bla bla bla shit. After another hour of driver installation and shit...

ITS COMPLETE. Hear i am. Right now.

tl/dr: I spent 6+ hours on building a simple pc. Piss.

SPECS:

Amd Phenom II x4 @ 3.0 ghz. 39 degree's.
2gb ddr2 (fail)
geforce 8400gs (It was my current one, i didnt upgrade my gpu)
Shitty case
Windows xp and yea. Same HDD and all.

Yea I feel a semi-big difference. Im going to try gaming on it today. I did not change my graphics card so I dont expect a high FPS change. At-least I dont crash or it takes a hella long time when alt-tabbing in and out of gmod.

Btw guys, I forgot to install my motherboard output plate on the case  :D

But its not a big deal really, i just has to take out the mobo and install that plate and...place back in.

Surprisingly its a big-ass Pc store called: Fry's Electronics. Liek sanders stated, they have a big gaint wall dedicated to Graphics cards. My did they look pretty. But I couldn't get any of them cuz i already went way over my budget :(

Teh site

Next month or so, im gona pay them another visit and get an ACTUAL name brand case. Like antec or some awesome atx gaming case.

Fuck that shit, the lowest price case they have is $169. OOOOH NEEEEEEEEWEGGGG!

Along with that case:

A nice lil' ati radeon since i was told you get hella lot performance when combining amd + ati. I thought it would be more likely for Intel + ATI and AMD + Nvidia.

And for $70 4gb's of ram since my mobo only holds 2 sticks :C

edit: holy crap i just realized I earned a life achievement: Build your first soon to be gaming rig - 120g
