DDOS Hacker attempt.

Who: #44 "Itchyman" Steam 0:0:31049443
When: 3:45PM, 6/23/10
Where: TTT
Witnesses: Masshu, Kakashi, Sheeps
After being an overall ass to the server on cs_office, this kid (you could tell from his micspamming) starts to brag about how he's able to crash the server. I tried to lure more out of him, but the pic was all I got. Next map, while he was holding up the round on cs_assault by being in the glitch spot and unfairly killing multiple people, he was unanimously vote kicked. About 30 seconds to 1 minute later, the server starts to lag pretty badly. It's fairly obvious that this kid got so butthurt that he decided to test his DDoS attack. It was pretty bad for an attack, but it's still a threat and should be dealt with accordingly.

Just a second opinion here: He constanly mic-spams, and if I recall, he admitted to being a girl. :s

Make sure the admins dont confuse this guy for itchydani3l. Admin was on earlier, and almost banned him, but if me and waffle managed to stop him.

Its not a DoS attack, its spamming cmds to the server causing it to lag. A recent patched one was 20 lines of rcon_password with random symbols.

Also, DDoS implies that more then one person is sending packets and trying to floor/crash the server. DoS = 1 ; DDoS = 2+
Sorry its a pet peeve when I see someone calling a dos a ddos

one more thing. Even if the steam ID is banned, you can still send commands to a server, so you would need to IP banned said person to stop them.
Luckily with the newest update, all the old ones no longer work and these 12 year olds can't mess with servers.

Actually, IP bans are pretty useless too. Most people can just restart their router to get a new IP, that's how all these "hackers" evaded the old kick/ban system.

i am 99% sure it wasn't a dos attack. Most likely it was a loop in the console to send the same cmd 50+ times a second to the server. It's easy to do. I once did it to my old clans cal match because I was booted for no reason.... but I digress.

Some one just needs to look at the logs and see what cmd(s) were being sent.

lrn2read, afaik the new system kicks/bans by SteamID, not by IP. Therefore, I don't think you can evade this one that easy.

Most isp's use the DHCP protocol to assign IP's, so the lowest #erd IP available will be supplied to you when you reconnect to them, hence why your IP changes when you restart your router and therefore request a new connection from them. However doing this tends to only change the last three digits of your ip So if we really wanted someone to be gone for a while, all we would have to do is ban all the ip's 1-255 of the  187.54.589.XXX (replace the xxx with 1-255 and ban them all) That would at least keep them off our servers until the isp decides his house needs to be routed through a different switch.

The only thing more we could do is reject all people from a certain internet provider, though this might be rather impractical if the person uses a large ISP but would sure as hell make the ban permanent, at least until he switches ISP's.
