Alright folks, lets play a little game of guessing.

How many respected users do you think there are for RND?

Closest person gets a cookie  ;D

He is not being Banned, He is simply having his respected powers removed for a month, he is still free to play on any server.

Alright, seems the evidence is out, Admiral Akbar despite your cool name, you are henceforth blacklisted from the respected user base for a term of 1 month.

So therefore you are ineligible to apply for respected until the date of July 5th, 2010.

Get an external usb hard drive enclosure, I had a hdd go bad on me, it wouldn't boot when installed into my computer, but when I put it into a usb enclosure I was able to access my files on it. Not guaranteed to work but might give you a chance to get your files, and the enclosures are only like 20 dollars.

Other than that, the server has quite a few of your maps, just re-download them and de-compile them. It sucks to lose the progress you made on them, but hell its better than nothing.

Alright, enough spam. Get the topic back on its rails or it goes down the old dusty way of all the other flood suggestion topics.

:((((((((((((((

It is a LOT of pressure with people asking you to continuously fix things.

Other than that --- F' it. I will start working on the current Flood, I will start uploading modifications to the code.

Just remember what I said tho, don't just start changing things, sit down with a pencil and paper and write out everything you want to do. Get the big picture fleshed out, and try to think about what ramifications that your changes will cause.

While the technical stuff does tend to take a lot of time, it would be a shame to spend a lot of time on something, only to find out it wasn't used by the players in anyway you intended it to be, or it simply doesn't make flood any more fun and all that times you spent on it goes to waste.

P.S. Don't give me that face, and welcome to the world of online community volunteering, where the under-appreciated, slave-whipped, and often whined at roam the inter-webs.   :)

We have discussed this many times before. VIP is not happening, please stop asking about it.

Instead the whole respected system will be redone, It's already on the list of items to be completed.

Just be patient.

The main problem with flood at the moment, is we don't have anyone available to work on it. As far as finding evidence that there are problems with flood Ruben and Coolz already know there are serious problems with it, that's not the issue. The issue is having enough time to recode it. Coolz has a list a mile long for other things to do for Rnd. And I think Ruben is off focusing on schooling. And no one has seen or heard from Minic in several months.

So some new coding blood might help the community out a lot.

If you really want to see results on fixing the flood mode. Draw up new ideas on how to make it work better and be more fun in the long term. And start re-coding the flood game-mode from scratch.

Things to consider in the redesign:

1. Be designed in a way as to encourage people building boats
2. Have more balance in the prop selection, there should be more than just 2 or 3 good props to use in boat design
3. Money hording shouldn't be encouraged (ex: really expensive weapons are super overpowered)
4. Try to encorage different boat designs

That's all that comes to my mind at the moment. But basically, just think of all the ways that flood is lame and boring at the moment, and think up a way that will make it fun again. I tend to frown upon RPG systems in games like flood, because it unbalances the game into rich players favor far too much. But that might be what keeps flood so popular for so long is that it does encourage people to play it a lot. But it sure doesn't make it all that much fun.

I will put a warning in about adding in new vehicles. It's easy to re-skin vehicles, but creating a whole new vehicle type in source is rather difficult. So unless you have a reasonably talented C++ programmer with you, I'd shy away from creating new vehicles.

I have two of their dvd's on how to use XSI, they are pretty decent, somewhat tedious at times, but overall pretty good. Definitely helped me a lot with XSI.

I agree, I've vowed to torrent everything from them now.

Honestly? That's the best you can do? If you hate the company don't play the game, doing that is just a cheap cop out that still allows you to still play the game and mumble some half hearted nonsense about not agreeing with them. If you really have huge problems with how they do business don't bother with them. Vowing to torrent someone's files as a way to protest, is just a cheap excuse to justify torrenting.

If your going to torrent it, that's fine do whatever you want I'm not one to judge you. However, using torrenting as a form of protest is unacceptable, either play the game, and put up with how they do it. Or don't put up with it, and not play the game at all.

I also, am not happy with how they are releasing the game. But I will reserve my judgment on it until they actually have their finished product released. If all they did is the equivalent of chop a standard game into thirds, I will be angry and not buy anything from them again. But if they actually hold true on their promises and its actually a full game, then I will be fine with it and accept their decision.

It's only limiting for those with limited ideas  ;)

But for the mega hdr stuff, the super florescent hdr doesn't really make sense unless the room is hazy or something like that. So it looks kinda... out-of-place to me. But if you guys really want to get this mod to completion, get a basic version of everything made first, so then you have somthing completed, then go back through and add in all your fancy things you have planned.

Meaning get a basic mock-up of the mod made, with only basic structures and textures so you can optimize the pathing, and pacing of the mod first. Then once everything feels right, add in all the detail stuff like great lighting, good textures, effects, etc.

Otherwise you will spend forever on one section of the mod, and make it super amazing. but its disjointed from the rest of the mod, and kinda tarnishes all the hard work you put into it. Or you do all this work and find you have to re-do a big portion of it because you decide to change how something plays.

If you do this it will give your mod a much more complete feeling as a single story when it is all done, and it wont feel like a bunch of maps that were piled together.

That and it will give you a good idea of how much time certain aspects will take.

So start basic at first, then build up from there. A building is only as strong as it's foundation.
