50% of Israeli Army Conscripts Refuse to Serve.

Israeli military officials have announced that about 50 percent of the Israeli conscripts refuse to serve in the army, a report says.

The announcement was made during a visit by a group of Israeli Knesset (parliament) members to a conscription center, Israeli Channel 2 reported on Sunday.

The Israeli military speculates that the percentage of refusals in the army would reach 60 by the end of 2020. This is not the first time that the Israeli military is facing refusals to serve in the army.

because all the other discussions have their own thread, so of course im going to make a different thread for each. that and it makes it easier to focus on one topic, and one thread alot of ppl would get confused on which topic  everyones talking about etc. so its easier imo just to do it this way, but that doesn't rule out he possibility that i might makes something like that.

but i feel these suggestions belong on my profile, rather then on the forum, as it has nothing to offer in terms of adding to the discussion at hand.

i find it funny, because everyone brags how elite the IDF is. and half of them dont want to fight.

I wouldn't want to fight in order to rid someone else of their land (Palestinians) although I think they need to meet a MUTUAL agreement soon!

well they have been giving land back for years now, which is why israel is a itty bitty country now compared to Israel after the six day war. but yes they need to reach some sort of agreement.

It's not that half of the IDF won't fight, it's half of the people that are called to serve refuse to do so. Which means people between the age of 21-40 and 18 year-olds.
It's also illeagal to refuse to serve at the IDF unless you have something that limits you from doing so.

They don't fight in order to rid someone else of their land. They fight the countless terrorists that keep assaulting Israel from the outside and inside (since there are Arabic villages inside of the country).
That's why the IDF is necessary for Israel. Remember that it's also surrounded by hostile countries.

Israel tried and still is trying to get to an agreement with Gaza, but since they are fighting between themselves (because one half wants Israel gone while the other wants peace) and because terrorists keep attacking Israel  they can't get an agreement.

You use the fact that 50% of the people that are forced to do military service don't want to do it as an argument about the quality of the military?

Heck, I have to do my military service next year and don't want to do it. Doesn't say anything about the quality of the army.

just look at their equipment they are still using veitnam era weapons. like m16a1/a2 and the old outdated version of the m4(without the optics and rails.) their camies are also Vietnam era still using olive drab. also they brag about their new merkava MK4 being the best in the world, even though they have lost more merkava's then the abrams and challenger II combined. now granted they do have a damn good special forces, but their military is mostly conscripts, much like the US's national guard.

@Jhon over 80% of the IDF is made up of conscripts, so 50% of conscripts is a huge blow to the IDF.
