Anyone Read "Brave New World"?

Quite a classic somewhat controversial book... a read it a long while ago, but I pretty much completely forget the whole thing. If anyone's read it, do you think you could give me just a very quick summary? Was there a main character or not? I really can't even remember anything about it lol. Thinking of using it for an English book study thing, which is why I'm asking.

Oh wow, I am so happy you bring this up. I love and I MEAN LOVE dystopian fictions. This is one of my favorite novels of all time and I gotta say if you have to chose something for a book report or formal write up this is a great book to use. In reality there are so many things you can cover wether it be hypnopedia or Christianities affects on native americans. This book brings up alot of good topics. With that said there isn't a true main character. Bernard is I guess you could say the main character. He is the one that changes things and I guess you could say he is the "good" guy. With that said there are many supporting characters that if they didn't exist would make the novel quite fail.

Summary:
This is a world where everything is controlled by a drug. Said drug mixed with hypnopedia pretty much shapes the lives of everyone in the world. With that said, no one has sex to conceive. It is actually forbidden and thought to be for the simple and barbaric. Everyone is created in labs and given ranks in society with Alpha on top and I think Gamma on the bottom. Pretty much this is a novel in which Bernard confronts society and learns all about how fucked up it is.


Sorry I know its not the best summary but it isn't fresh in my mind. Been about 2 years since I read it. I think I wrote 4 papers on it though if you needed some inspiration after reading and wanting to write on it.

Yea, thanks man. I guess I remembered a lot of the plot and shit really, well, setting mostly I suppose, but couldn't think of any of the characters. The theme of this essay I'll be writing is on quests/"heros", so I suppose I could refer to Bernard as so?
And btw, I did really like the book. I unfortunately don't really remember too much about it, I don't even know why, but I remember loving it.

He is just a better kind of man. Yes he is insane but at the same time he has more of our values and stands for what he believes in.

He hasn't given me a definition. I basically just have to make my own argument of how someone's a hero, and support it. That's one of the few things I like about these types of assignments/work, and I usually do great at is so...

Well the obvious one is Fahrenheit 451, if you havent read it you need to. I have read the novel around 6 times.
Animal Farm - Read twice
A Clockwork Orange - Read twice but if you don't feel like reading the movie does it justice and there are some tits in there to!
1984 - read once.

These are the most widely read.

Other than that is when you would need to look through a list and find what you like. Some are murder and shit. Lots of sub genres.

Damn, I need to read more. I havent read a book in a bit since I owe the library around 100 bucks! lol. They say I stole a couple movies when I don't even rent them. Why would i? I have the computer/internet.

Thanks, on that list, only ones I've heard of is A Clockwork Orange and 1984. I might go out and get one or two of them.

OMG YOU NEED TO GET 451 and A Clockwork Orange. 1984 is the generic recommendations for guys that any good teacher would give but Clockwork is a mind fuck and 451 is just amazing.

i've read all of 5 books on my own.

One of them was a US army survival manual.

451 got me from start to finish. It was a school assignment, and I finished it the day after I was given the book.
I don't do that often. With movies, even.
