Building my computer...
« on: October 10, 2011, 03:14:02 PM »

I read a magazine about building computers, and after finishing, it made me want to throw out my laptop and build an amazing desktop.
The only thing is, I'm not sure what to get.
I could spend $2000 on an absolute beautiful, amazing computer, but I know for a fact I wouldn't be using it's full potential. So I would be wasting a lot of money.

So far, this is the only thing I know I want:

Computer Case:
COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1 Black Steel/ Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Other than that, I'm stuck.

I prefer to not spend anything more than $1500

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.683101&cm_sp=DIY_PC_Combos-_-683101-_-Combo
It's a bundle that you assemble yourself. You have to get a separate graphics card though

For the graphics card, the Nvidia GTX 560 will do.

If you don't like the case in the bundle you can still buy your own separately

I'd prefer 8GB of RAM rather then 4, just for reassuring reasons.
Does it matter?

Depends on what you do. I idle @ 3GB cause I have a background programs, and they add up fast, and 7GB when running DF in the background. I would say for for 8 if its in your budget, but thats only from my experience. If not, you can always make an easy upgrade if your mobo keeps the 2 extra slots (Mine doesnt :c, damn frio)

4GB+ is fine. And since RAM is relatively inexpensive and easy to install you can upgrade in the future if you need to. Focus on the processor and graphics card; those are the most important when it comes to gaming.
