I have a riddle for you all

So, during camp just before solo phase, a good friend of mine came up to me and handed me this carefully drawn riddle on a peice of lined paper:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He said to me, "Here is a riddle for you to solve on your three days. On the peice of paper are three 10's in a box. For this riddle to be solved, you must turn this into 950 by using one straight line. The line cannot curve, it cannot bend, and there can only be one and once you believe it has become 950, you must explain why that is so." So for the whole three days I sat by my fire scribbing on my notepad over and over, effectively covering page after page with the three 10's and a box, trying desperately to figure it out. But sadly, on the day we marched back to garrison I said, nope, cant say I got it. And then I handed him a parchment of paper, and he drew it out.

I facepalmed so hard that it looked as though I was gouging out my eyeballs.

So yep. Turn those three 10's into a definite 950. I'll probably toss out hints here or there. And I believe the guy who made this riddle, handed it to his best student to try and it took him six months. If you know this riddle, dont spoil it.

Good luck  :)

Edit:

For it to be a definite 950:

Any person who has not done the puzzle before should take a quick glance at it and it should easily say 950.

Hint #1:

-The box is irrelevant
-Time is of the utmost importance

My bet is that is has something to do with turning the paper and using the box it's in. Too lazy to figure out specifically how. Easy to make the 9 though, using that method. Maybe I'll look at it later.

Also, can the line have more than one verticie?
Does it have to be inside the box?
And can there be extra numbers, or does it have to use up all of the numbers to make the 3 digits?
Also, can it be Roman numerals? :>

It doesnt have to be in the box and no, the line doesnt have to cross all the numbers

Edit: Straight line, no bends, but it can go through whatever it wants

So it's a roman numeral. I don't have it, but I know 950 is CML in roman numerals.

Am I allowed to have a stick hanging there?
Or do I have to use every number already on?
