Blackscreens & crashing (this is annoying)

Ok this has been bothering me for over a year now and I dont really know what to do anymore.... When playing games, any game really but it happens quicker with games like oblivion and fallout, moderately often with gmod, and almost never with mass effect 1 and 2 (go figure), the game will sometimes blackscreen then recover, or crash to desktop depending on how my computer feels like fucking with me today. I have no idea what to do to fix this but I think the problem is with the graphics card drivers as sometimes the TDR warning comes up and says that it recovered from a kernal error (whatever that is). I am playing this shit on a laptop (college, see. Cant afford 30 computers) but havn't had this problem until a year after getting the computer. I have an intel i7 920 (desktop processor), nvidia gtx 285m graphics card, and running windows 7 professional. If any more information is needed and you can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried disabling tdr, overclocking (gpu), underclocking (gpu), increasing power, changing graphics levels on games (doesnt help), and using older graphics drivers. Only thing it seems I havnt done is buy a new card or throw the damn thing out a window, although I think I will try that next.

Oh, the chassis is a clevo d900f, and heat benchmarks im running dont say it goes over 70.

Also I just found out how to put fans on full blast, that doesn't help either.

When this happened to me, it was because I didn't have a strong enough graphics card, but this isn't the case since you have a really good graphics card (for laptops that is :P)

Even once or twice in the past, my ATI 5770, had crashed even on the desktop then recovered.

I think I read somewhere that you switch the audio to software? idk...

Btw, what was the temperature of the gpu when you were playing?

GPU temp is posted in original post. Im fairly sure it doesnt ever go far past 70 though, and that was without fans on full.

99.100% it is your graphics card drivers.
Try a driver update.
If that does not help, it is a sign of a dying card.
