"GEE WIZ, CAKE FACE QUOTED SOMEONE ELSE QUOTE ON MY REGULAR APP THAT SUPPORTED IT, HE MUST BE MY BEST FRIEND".

But for different causes, this has happened to me multiple times.

Ok, I just had a chat with Tom.

It turns out it didn't even have anything to do with the app.
It was because one of his "friends" in another group actually hated him even though he said he was his friend.
He thought that, since you accepted his friend request, you were his friend.
He wanted to make sure you were actually his friend and wasn't just acting like it.

It was a bit naive of him, but give him a break.
