It's related to electronics........

Hello, I'm trying to make a handheld multi-stage coilgun at home. What I need is some type of circutry that charges up to x volts before letting them pass then restarting the process, allowing an easier design for getting large amounts of current through the coils for only a short time. Anybody have ideas? Also if you have any other ideas on how to greatly increase the magnetic field created by the coils for a short while, I'd appreciate it.

I know this is probably a bad place to ask, but it's the only place I could think of.

Thanks, I can think of a few ways to beef that up.

Although, I never really knew anything about circutry I think I can do this. Now to find a sodering iron...

Want a stronger magnetic field.
Add more coils.
(Reg) Nezz45: peetah are you good with the weight tool?

I might try one method that would be to wrap it around a soft iron sleeve aswell, greatly increasing the magnetic field according to wikipedia.
Now I've only started thinking about this stuff today, so could you just charge capacitors by using an electrical cord with seperated +/- wires clamped to the capacitors?
When I get my epic "Gauss" rifle ateast up to about 1k fps and decorated I'll post pics. Now to find a sodering iron...

Thanks guys.
