ehhh you can't just say it was religion... the Muslim were in the height of there technological life during the middle ages. It was mainly the repressive nature of monarchies and the affect of abuse in terms of religion. I hate generalities! :D

And IMHO if we had a machine to travel back in time it would cause some sort of EMP causing all these electronics to be fried and render them useless.

All these kinds of discussions are more like "what would you wish you had if you were in this time period", because time travel would've already happened at the earliest point a time traveler would journey to. If you haven't been visited by a you from the future, you're not going to visit your younger self in the future because your younger self would've experienced that.
