A dual request regarding the respect system:

So I'm looking at an old thread that got necro-bumped, and I notice that one of my posts is at -2,  even though it wasn't particularly useless at all. Out of curiosity I click the view voters button, and it was voted down by Bunnykilla and someone named Bulbasaur.

I scroll up, and EVERY SINGLE POST I made in that thread got -1'd by the same people, regardless of what it said.

Here's the thread: http://forum.randomgs.com/index.php/topic,3659.msg76133/topicseen.html#msg76133

Now, I'm pretty sure bunnykilla is banned (Based on the assummption that he must have done SOMETHING in the last month while I was gone).
I checked, and he's not. But his warning level is 50%, which furthers my point just the same.

So, I have two ideas to propose right now.

1. When a user is banned, all their post votes are reset. So if someone lowers your respect by 50, and they get banned for it, your respect goes back to normal and all is well.
If a user is given a warning level for spamming votes, an admin could be given an option to reset all their votes in the last day, week, or month etc.

2. You will not be able to vote on the same user's posts more than say, 5 times in an hour. If you try to, a small modal notification window would display notifying you of this.
If a user is warned or banned, an admin can lower their alotted votes per hour to ensure they don't do damage again, or revoke their right to use the respect system entirely.

Most of you will think the second rule is restrictive, but consider this.

SabbathFreak (Adam) has voted the most posts in the entire forum (1634 as of this writing) and has 44d, 20hr total time online.

Let's do math.

44 days and 20 hours is equivalent to 1076 hours.

1634 divided by 1076 is about ~1.52.

That means that the person who votes the MOST in the entire forum only makes about one and a half votes every hour. Not very restrictive if you ask me.

I just thought of this last night as I was going to bed, and the idea isn't perfect. Tell me what you think/how it could be improved/if it wouldn't work and why.

Not a bad idea, +1

Also, Inb4respectsystemistotallypointless

Here is a good reason the system is useful.
Obviously, Some people do care about the system. This including new rnd players or oldfags.
Having this system makes people fear being -1'd. The only way you'd be -1'd is if you post something stupid.
This means that players try harder to be helpful and post good things and they avoid doing dumb things.
Thats just my 2 cents in the whole thing.

Yes, but this idea is to prevent people from abusing it. And to prevent people from -1ing every post they don't like/don't agree with.

Yeh but what if someone who is regularly on the forum gets banned.
They would throw off the current respect.

Solution: Don't get banned.

And honestly, you shouldn't be voting posts so much to the point where there would be an upturn if your votes got removed.
