I'm sure all of you had a virus at least once in your life, and this guide will show you how to remove them.
First of all, what is a virus?
A computer virus is a computer program that can copy itself and infect a computer. The term "virus" is also commonly but erroneously used to refer to other types of malware, including but not limited to adware and spyware programs that do not have the reproductive ability. A true virus can spread from one computer to another (in some form of executable code) when its host is taken to the target computer; for instance because a user sent it over a network or the Internet, or carried it on a removable medium such as a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB drive.(taken from wikipedia)
Today, I will show you how to remove a virus from your computer and tips how to avoid them.
Removing a virusStep 1
Alright, first of all, were gonna go download and install MBAM (Malware bytes anti-malware):
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.htmlWhat is this you may ask? This is a free Malware remover. It removes viruses, trojans, adwares, malware, etc...
Step 2: Update MBAM. You can do so by opening it up and then select "
Check for update" in the Update tab.
THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT, WITH AN OUTDATED VERSION OF MBAM, IT MIGHT NOT DETECT ALL VIRUSES
Step 3: Close MBAM then download Rkill:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkillWhat is Rkill? Rkill is a small program that Terminates known malware programs that slow your computer down. IMPORTANT NOTE: This
DOES NOT remove viruses, just stops them from running so you can do a scan without having viruses interfering.
Step 4: Run Rkill, and give it several minutes to check you're PC, once it's done, close it and any other programs that are running and open MBAM. (Make sure it's updated)
Step 5: go to the ''Scanner tab'' and select Full scan and select all your drives. Then give MBAM time to scan your computer. Scan times can very to
30-150 minutes depending on the number of files on your computer and how fast it is.
Step 6: Mbam should display all the viruses it found, simply select them and then remove them. Mbam will save a log to your computer, saying the date of the scan and all the viruses it found. If MBAM didin't find any viruses, then your PC is clean and safe!
Tips and tricks for viruses1-How do I know if I have a virus?: Sometimes, it's hard to tell if your PC is infected with malware. If your PC get's all slow, do the following:
Press ctrl-alt-delete and open up task manager and go to the ''processes'' tab and check for any unusual background programs that are running and using a lot of space. Make sure to not delete this process: explorer.exe
trusted programs (for my computer that is): explorer.exe steam.exe mbam.exe.
If your computer is still slow, follow my guide for ''removing a virus''.
If that still dosen't work, make sure you don't have any ''power'' consuming programs open and restart your PC.
2-How can I avoid viruses?: Avoid the following: Do not open suspicious emails from people you don't know. Avoid downloading torrents as they can give you viruses. Avoid clicking random adds on the internet, yeah you know those adds that say ''find out who loves you'' or ''YOUR OUR ONE MILLIONTH VISITOR CLICK HERE FOR A PRIZE'' as they are mostly fake and probably contain viruses. Only go to sites when you really need to, and don't search up stupid shit. If a site looks suspicious, then don't visit it. And finally,
USE COMMON SENSE!
3-Tips for protecting your PC: First of all do regular scans with MBAM about each 3-4 weeks, make sure to run Rkill before you do the scan and keep Mbam updated, it should prompt you to check for an update each time it starts up. Get a good anti-virus. I
DO NOT recommend downloading free anti viruses off of the internet, as chances are they scanner itself contains a virus. Go to any electronic store and search for a good anti-virus, It's worth it.
Make Backups of your computer. You never know when your computer could decide to go KABOOM and lose all your files. Do a backup every 1-2 month.
Anyways, that is all and I hope my guide helped you, feel free to post some of your Mbam logs, or some of the anti-viruses you use. Shiz like that.
