A discussion on: Spawn Camping, Spawn Killing

Last night I started to play ZS for the first time in what feels like forever [only a week or two really], and noticed a //slight// increase in blatant and unintentional spawn camping.  That got me to wondering, what is your opinion on the practice?  I mean, on one hand the way maps are designed it can be hard to prevent [especially unintentional spawn camping / killing], but on the other hand, spawn camping on purpose is an extremely dick move that can make it impossible to play. [seriously, how do you play when you die upon spawning?]

It's usually the maps problem, ask the creator to make a fix, or if creator is unknown - ask the abusers to stop, if they don't start a kick

See, I like what Chambers did for zombie spawning - setting it up so zombs started on a different level [literally] and could enter the area with significantly lower chances of this occurring. [at least until the last few waves, when you are in that room where you have to descend to enter the human area, where people can just hang out there and pick you off one by one]

Fortunately last night's folks weren't dicks, when asked to they stopped, but I've seen guys who deny what they do is spawn camping [or just keep doing it anyways].  IF they do it, its less annoying than denying it when it is blatantly clear/visible/meeting the textbook definition, and keep going anyways.  >:D

But yeah, I was hoping there would be more debate, discussion since this just felt like one of those issues that would spark [hopefully civil] argument.  :P

For me, spawn camping depends. if fun when you spawn camp, but its boring when other spawn camp you.

I have always spawn camped, and it isn't considered against the rules.

When I'm zombie i prefer to be spawn camped because it is easier to get kills.

Exactly this.
If you've ever seen my zs gameplay videos you will know how I play and it is spawn camping.

Blame the map creator, he/she should be designing a map that prevents that

I was always under the impression that spawn camping was done in such a way where your scenario was impossible, since they'd be camping at, aiming weapons at the point in which you spawn which == death almost instantly upon spawning... unless I mixed up terminology again... >_<

For me, spawn camping depends. if fun when you spawn camp, but its boring when other spawn camp you.

Same conundrum I sometimes find myself coming to grips with.

Unless i'm there, I doubt they'll spawn camp you hard enough to not let you kill a few people.

In fact, most of the time this is not an issue [and again I merely //intended// to make this a discussion, not a rant/rave fest on my part - hope you didn't get the wrong idea bout my intention.]

I remember during the last few waves of Chambers one game it happened to the point where threats of kicking people from ZS were going around [from people who actually //COULD// kick] - they were hanging under the passage from which we entered the map, killing us as we spawned and began our descent.   Pity, I found the rest of the map design pretty decent so far as keeping spawn killing from occurring.

[ bump'd]

[re-dawns flame suit]

2 months later, it seems like camping has become a more frequent occurrence, that and the hostility expressed towards those who - even politely - ask to stop camping / explain why it is annoying.

It is very simple.

Spawn camping a little bit can be funny.  Hell, in some cases light camping can't exactly be avoided given how maps are designed.

The problem with doing it too way too much is this:  It kills replay value, makes it so people don't want to play - I mean hell, if you can't even get out of spawn because you die as soon as you start moving, or even die as soon as you respawn on map, what's the point?

And to those of you who respond to somebody saying "stop camping" to that degree of camping with "get better" - please... just shut the fuck up now, and stop making my IQ drop with such a retarded comeback.... the whole point of them asking you to stop camping is because it is so bad that they can't even PLAY - which means they can't get better while you do that.  There is nothing wrong with letting people at least start moving without dying.

It mainly depends on the player whether he will spawn camp or not, it isn't against the rules so not many of us can do anything about it, it if gets to carried away ask a admin or VIP on steam to come on the server and start a votekick.

a spawn camping like in quarantine or w/e the name is for me is ok because zombies and humans gets kills.

now, if it is something like infected hospital... well i have to say that map makes me punch babies.

people vote for a map (even when they know that in that map people allways spawn camp.), then they get choosed as zombie and then they rage quit because they are being spawn camped.

For meh, if there is 1 zombie in infected hospital and 27 humans, i wouldn't mind any admin go allah headcrab on humans a couple of times.

zs_trainterminal, with the asinine amount of nades given, comes to mind with that sentiment.

Spawn camping/killing is a pretty good reason on why alot of zombies leave at the start of a new map. So now it takes like 5 minutes for more people to come in, only furthering to unbalance the zombie to human ratio. It should be a rule to not overkill with spawn camp, it really kills out the game when it starts.
