Long time ago '09 '10 ish

Today I found a really old Google Sites page where I've posted ban images and logs back in '09 - '10 to get minges and griefers banned on Random... This made me look up the random gmod community once more.

It's been such a long time since I played GMod as seriously as I did back then. Man I remember the good ol' days playing GMod on the Random servers. We had so many back then. I even made a new sledbuild map that actually rotated on the sledbuild server with the only other avaliable sledbuild map... the memories.

coolzeldad, what happened in august of 2010? Is the old forum archived somewhere?

What has happened through the years? Is it just money that is the issue or is it a declining interest in GMod or lack of time?

I will be studying for a couple of years now and I have a great connection (1gb/1gb fiber) but I'm located in Sweden. I don't have much time to put on Random but I would love to help out getting some servers up. I have hardware that I can spare for a server that can host a couple of GMod servers, is this of interest?

Few years ago coolz had to stop hosting the servers for a few months but when they came back on, regulars and guests had already moved on to other servers. Most of us still in RnD have lost interest in playing gmod. We hang around in teamspeak or discord though so if you want to play a game with someone try going on one of those.

Damn, that's a shame really.  Random were truly the best GMod servers.

Combination of things. Over saturation of TTT servers and (sadly) people don't like vanilla servers. They want lots of D/T weapons and to be able to donate for hats and skins.

"Is there no interest in giving it another try?" Last year, or early this year, there was a cool gimmick of uncommon to rare weapons with different stats like Borderlands every round, server became activish, but it crashed somewhat often, and people kinda stopped playing cause of that. :/

Declining interest, like you said. I tried to bring up a heavily modified TTT server, which was active for a while but eventually died out.
