Sup all, i remember, probably 3-5 years ago, i spent stupid amounts of time on the randomgs wintersurvival/TTT servers
Those servers are down now (not sure if it is permenant), there's a new wintersurvival server somewhere, unfortunately, it isn't popular, or as good as it was years ago, which sucks

i'm currently working on a re-make of WS myself, it's going well, maybe in a few months it will be ready

anyway, anyone have any relevant nostalgia?

Unfortunately, most of the servers were shut down because of in-activity, including TTT and WS.

Which means coolz needs to fucking add those 2 to fretta.

That's unfortunate, back when i used to play on RND, both servers were always really popular
Times have changed. The Gmod Population has slowly increased but the amoun of servers has skyrocketed, leaving the player base spread thinly across servers.

Did RND's version of wintersurvival work on the most recent version of gmod?
if so i might be willing to rent a server for a few months hosting it while i work on my own gamemode

Yeah, maybe, i might try to have something that's remotely playable within the next few days

a few ideas i'd like to atleast try out
day/night cycle & exhaustable resources & fueled heat sources
basically, as time goes on, the days get shorter and shorter, trees would be exhaustable, either they respawn every day, or you can plant your own (or both), the idea being that eventually, the fuel would become too scarce to cope for the lack of daylight, people might fight over fuel, or perhaps build a completely renewable fuel source that survives them forever
tech trees
basically, instead of the system we remember in ws, which was really cumbersome, you'll have a tech tree, as you make more stuff, more stuff is revealed, ie, you make a log, crystal tools are revealed, and you would just click on your tech tree to craft an item, there would also be a bunch of default tools unlocked from the start
give spectators something to do
perhaps, if you kill these early, you get more rewards, the spectators goal might be to suck up fuel, and as they get fatter, they lose reward value for killing them, maybe something else though, just get them involved rather than have them wait 20 minutes

maybe i'll post some diagrams or something tomorrow... or just add them to the gamemode

the biggest problem I've had with this gamemode is that it's too short i always want the game to last 24/7 where if you died you died but you can respawn always hated that the game lasted only an hour never could get anything nice or big setup..... so i just want a survival rp i guess Lol

the biggest thing i hated about it was, often, people would join, get bored and leave during a round, without having played

my perfect balance of my idea of exhaustables would make it so you could easily go either way, easily surviving a night, or surviving it comfortably, and once you go below/above, it would spiral out of control, or give you a little safe buffer, so you'd of course have to keep upgrading your equipment each night

another idea i had, which might solve your problem, mine too, would be to eliminate the competitive aspect of the game, and have a maximum sized map, basically the further you went from spawn, the colder it became, and the scarcer your resources would become, the goal of it would be to get the furthest from spawn, and survive for as long as you could there, you would be able to make renewable sources of fuel and stuff, but it would get much harder the further out you got, you would also be able to team up with friends, and you would get a score that would be based on either (or both) how far from spawn, and how long you lived for

just making the inventory stuff a little more modular, and easier to edit codewise, i also touched the icons up, so they'd fill out their resolution better, and look a little better, i'll post a layout of the full inventory screen tomorrow, i have to go to sleep now
