Subarus, GMC, and Chevy are all solid manufacturers.  Hard to go wrong with those.

A used 4 cylinder compact (honda or other compact car) will get you pretty decent gas mileage and is usually cheap to fix, which i think is one of the more important things to consider especially when going used.

Get something with at least 4 seats if you wanna tug around extra stuph or peoplez.

Make sure everything in teh car works, including A/C, heat, lights front and back, engine cooling, gear shifting (automatic/manual), radio if that's important, etc. Make sure no dash warning lights are on or come on at all. If you go craigslist or something make sure you test the car decently before handing over the cash (and make sure you tell them that you will). Also if you do go the craigslist route go with somebody else so you don't get haggled or intimidated. Don't get something if you know you'll have to fix it or probably fix it later.... one bad thing leads to another (fix this then that goes wrong...)

get something with low mileage.... 100K + is pretty high for used....

Idk just dat kinda stuph.

I'd avoid trucks, suv's, and other big cars unless there is some special need as you won't get good gas mileage almost all the time.

Avoid sportish cars with two seats or some known expensive brand, one wreck or part failure and you'll pay back the cost of that car twofold.

Just general sensibility

Oh, and make sure you get the pink slip....

and it should pass smog if that's required in your area

Every time you download Garry's Mod illegally, Garry makes a bug.

When people ask me "Plz" because its shorter than "Please" I feel perfectly justified to answer "No" because its shorter than "Yes".

Check into looking at police auction yards. $500 can get you a nice confiscated Camaro. Or for $1000 you can score a decommish cop crown vic.

Just avoid any car with 80k+ miles claiming to be "Highway miles", they're probably not.

Anything under 115k is good for an American car. 200k is okay for a Honda or a Toyota or an Isuzu.

That's if you don't live in an extremely hot city like Los Angeles or Las Vegas. Have fun in traffic with those aircooled engines in the heat.

That's insane, my friend's bug always kept over-heating during the summer here in Vegas traffic, so one summer he saved up enough money, decided fuck it, and dropped in a porsche engine that's water-cooled.

Seriously, your best bet to driving it anywhere else is to engineer some hydro cooling system somehow.
