Every time you download Garry's Mod illegally, Garry makes a bug.

When people ask me "Plz" because its shorter than "Please" I feel perfectly justified to answer "No" because its shorter than "Yes".

Well I'm going to be a bit of a downer here, this technology has been around for a while and here we see it just being mass marketed.  Practically, I don't know why anyone would need this other than for work such as video game map making or structure documentation, etc.  Leads me to think it's being hyped and marketing as something revolutionary just to cash in.

I don't know, what would you guys need or reasonably want this for?  Anyhow it's still really cool.  Gets you thinking about spies mapping out whole rooms discreetly, etc.

I'd only be interested for the app development aspects. Cash in on kids with ADHD who will spend hours playing with a 3d object.

I am doing this live at my lab with a kinect. It is a project called Kinect Fusion Large Scale. Believe me, this shit would NOT run on a smartphone. In order to map my lab reasonably fast (~15 fps) I am cranking everything out of an SLI GT750m laptop. This will not be capable of mapping your room in real time on the kind of device that they show there. If it is a good sensor it may make mapping a room on a standard laptop a bit easier, but what they are showing on the demos either is limited functionality (the pet dog), or must be cutting some serious corners (the spin around your room and map thing).

Is it just me that rarely finds most devices and apps designed for mobile systems completely useless?

Yay! a mobile version of a website, now I can enjoy poorly scaled webpages and 1/4 the functionality!

It is clever to basically make a tiny kinect sensor. But I don't see any way I would possibly use such a thing.

Its:
- too inaccurate for 3d scanning objects for cad use for anything other than novelties
- too short of range to do any uav vision stuff

The integration with the oculus rift is about the only interesting thing I see about it. However that said, why do I need the sensor attached to my head if I am using it with a rift. Not exactly like I am going to be hauling my computer around with me on my back. So wearing mocap gloves, or just... buying a kinect which is made to work with windows not ipads seems like it would be a more sensible choice.

They're probably using a pre-render aspect that creates a cheap 3d model of what ever and just warp that around coordinate points so it appears real time. Pretty much same exact thing as a kinetic but with a more open market.

Some images using kinfu large scale in our kitchen.
