Obama decides to strike Syria but seeks congressional approval
jimonions:
I'm pretty sure the economic interests of opposing countries are much higher than going to war. The world isn't the same way it was 50 years ago.
Just my 2 cents
Also I seriously hope I make it through my 6 years without any draft.
Astropilot:
Obama's alternative to bombing up things instead of deploying troops won't make a difference in the situation. I found this similar to the situation.

It is exceedingly unlikely that this is going to escalate into world war III. The circumstances surrounding pearl harbor was vastly different than what Syria would be. For one there isn't a world war currently going on, unlike during pearl harbor. Remember pearl harbor was only the US's official entry into WWII everyone else had already been going at it.
As for strikes in Syria, it is far too late for them to do any good. If we wanted them to be effective they should have taken place without warning, as soon as they found out chemical weapons had been used. Assad has had two weeks to move critical assets around, and with potentially putting a time limit on the action it, it tells Syria that they just have to hold out for 90 days.
So at this juncture it is all just political flapping with no real effect on the situation.

I don't have too much of a hope that it will either but it really does seem that it's the closest we've got to it since WW2.

The thing is such proof does not exist. The US saying that it has the evidence of the chemical attacks by Assad's regime is almost an identical case to the Iraq war propaganda which we all know how it ended or perhaps I should say still continues... If US would have had or will strike Assad and manage to remove his regime the chances are more then likely that it will be the exact same outcome in that region as in other middle east countries that US, NATO and Israel has destabilized so far.

A very good article that I think everyone should read. It nails pretty much everything.
