im really sorry about your loss, but what was the cause of death? after working at a vet for 3 years now we do ear cleanings almost daily and the process is so simple it's nearly foolproof (I guess not though).
the only cause of death i could see as being an accident could be a broken neck from it jerking while they were trying to clean it.

what happened was that Bear started reacting to having a piece of plastic shoved down his ear, so the doctor told us "I'm just going to give him a little sedative"
you're supposed to do bloodwork on some dogs
ESPECIALLY purebred dogs before administering any kind of sedative, and even then the doctor gave him a full-on anesthetic and not some pussy-ass sedative
Bear's heart was too weak for the anesthetic
