Have you installed any mods at all? Is this a fresh install? Do you have AVG?

This. I'm pretty sure the social launcher is supposed to load up before the game does, then you put in your user and pass. I had a tonne of fucking problems with that social launcher. There might still be a problem with the Windows Live game keys when you sign in to your gamertag, that's another story though.

What version of the game are you playing? If it's Steam verify the cache and all. If you re installed, I feel sorry for you. That's one huge-ass download for the complete game.

Rockstar games are terrible when it comes to the PC. You usually have to go through 6 or so hours of trying fixes just to get it to start up.
