So I am taking my driving lessons soon so I can get my permit and then 16 study and take test and what not for license so I was wondering if you guys could share your driving lessons experiences or if you are taking classes or if you are getting ready to take the class etc.

Find a big, empty area to drive in.

Learn the limits of the vehicle.
Learn the limits of yourself as a driver.

Remember that each vehicle you drive is different; They are machines, and machines can be strange.

Know that you WILL start off as a poor driver, and experience behind the wheel is the only thing that will change that.

Edit: Also, bear in mind; operation of a vehicle is completely COMPLETELY different than operating in a structured system (driving on the road). It is much much harder to do, so learn from the start defensive driving techniques and such.

But in all seriousness, I don't know how to drive, I'd think to do what Deacon said.

If you're going to start somewhere, do what Deacon said and find a big empty area. What I did was find a huge park afterdark and practiced driving, braking, parking, and stick shifting.

Basically practice is all you can do.  Sure there's some helpful tips and tricks, but practicing will make you a smooth and confident driver.  It's an investment of time really.

Well... I'm from Idaho so it's probably different for you. I took drivers ed 3 years back at 7am for 3 hours a day. Over the course of 4 weeks. With my laziness I used my learning permit to drive alone for a year. My advice is if you live in a small town like me to get a car that you can turn the headlights off manually, then at night you put your car in "stealth mode" and go 80mph and never be seen. Also the more relaxed you are, the easier driving on ice is.

Because, ya know, Idaho's rural roads are completely smooth and drunken rednecks with giant red pickup trucks don't come barreling down at night or anything.

On a serious note. Drivers ed was simple for me. The class part was just so booring. My driving test for my licence was drive down a road and come back. Pocatello and Chubbuck have a combined population of about 100k, so it's tiny. It's easy to avoid wrecks when there is less. Bigger cities do have it harder with the higher amount of cars. The upside here is driving on ice is easy. The whole driving test is easy. The fear of it makes it hard.

Have fun hitting a bump on a dirt road at that speed. Your whole everything will break.

Speaking of bumps, I hit a dip going like, 30mph and it flung my truck like, 2ft in the air with a 30 year old suspension. Bad things are going to happen now.
