Likely a button on the gun remote.
I think there are a few things that you could do to make that feel more real, like have the tread ball you are on be motorized and just predict your running to make it so you don't feel like you are pushing the floor around, and maybe have a fan that swivels around to simulate wind, etc.
But this stuff is slowly getting there, though tf2 would not have been the game I would have showcased this on.
