Well, I believe it's required to get into some universitys. Otherwise, it looks reary nice on college apps and it'll let you apply for some nice scholarships.

I'm going to take it at the end of this school year.

I believe West Coast Uni's prefer SAT, while East Coast Uni's prefer ACT.

Then you have SAT II's... subject specific shit... annoying lol I believe you can cram for those more so than actual SAT.

They're not required to take (at least not here). But if you are doing well in school, your school counselor would probably recommend you to take the SAT/ACT tests.

And if you're applying for scholarships, with a good score on your SAT/ACT, you're probably going to have a good chance to qualify for one.

Yea I recall the SAT being a lot more simple than what I was expecting. I went into it thinking they would have all of this esoteric knowlege from the nether regions of the library.

When I finally took it the questions were along the lines of;

Is what species is a dolphin?

A: Fish
B: Mammal
C: Cookie
D: Seaweed
E: Fungus

Yes some of the problems were a bit harder but on the whole, as long as you have paid any attention in classes you have a pretty good chance of doing good on it.

I liked the ACT more than the SAT however, cant remember the specific reasons, just remember finding the ACT more enjoyable to take than the SAT.
