Memo.

United States of America.

What else do you call the people who reside here?

Do we not call people who are from Great Britain "British"?

Well un, anyways. I have a lot of respect for this man. It would take a lot for any other person to actually speak something like that. Oh and I agree that this generation of soon to be adults is by far the worst from what I've seen. Most people I've seen in my school are completely unmotivated to do anything, they think they're "hotshit" for doing poorly in school or just don't try, when in reality they are extremely ignorant and foolish, and don't have any plans for themselves in the future. This is not saying everyone is this way, but a majority is. They are also extremely disrespectful, and it really is disturbing seeing some of the things they do to people older than they are. Some of these people don't seem to realize just how fortunate they are to have any of the things they do. It only makes me wonder where our future will go...

actually i talked this on my english class today.

Calling someone American is.. well as you guys stated there is no other name.

But i was referring that in the video itself it said "why do you think America is the best country in the world?"

i mean, I do understand people from US being called American.

But not calling the country as a  continent.

I still say it's kind of pointless to complain about. I'm not even American and I don't care about people calling the USA "America." I live in north America though. If people were calling Canada or Mexico "America" that would be different but only because the word "America" isn't in our country's name. Obviously, it is in USA's name.
And if you're saying that he literally mistook the whole continent as a country, he didn't as he mentioned Canada and I think Mexico as other free countries as well.

Why do you bother to complain about it if no one feels offended other than to be "politically correct". And America is NOT a continent. It's either South America or North America. No teacher or professor would allow America to be used to reference either, so there's literally no reason why America can't be used to only specify the USA

Makes good sense.

Once again,

United States of America.

It's just a commonly picked nickname to say the country, instead of having to fully say "United States of America".

How I think: America is just a shortened and different way to say USA. If you want to say the continent then say North America or South America. Simple.

i just realized something.

Wikipedia in Spanish: America es el segundo continente más grande del planeta...

(translated that means: America is the second largest continent on the planet...)

Wikipedia in English: The Americas (or America) are lands in the Western Hemisphere that are also known as the New World. Comprising the continents of South America and North America...

To be honest, i had no idea you guys see the whole thing about America as it is made by 2 continents...

I believe most of people here(South America) believes that America is just 1 continent...

Pretty much, what we got teached in this part of the world was this:

by the reach of Spain to America, one of the sailors called "Americo Vespucio" made the maps of all the new lands they found. This was revolutionary because most of people tough that they had reached India.

well fuck, you learn something new everyday... anyways, from my point of view  there is just one big continent called America and not the 2 called the Americas or w/e, and by this is kind of wrong to call it as the continent instead of his real name.

Little note here: It doesn't really bother me, just that i didn't understand your points of view, thanks for this little debate or whatever you guys want to call it.
