Tending to a spider .... how do I take care of it?

I found myself taking down a rather large web strewn across the driveway today, a bit later my brother - who was heading out - found the culprit by the garage door button, a rather large-ish orb spider.  Rather than do what I already do, and squash it, I wanted to take care of it, like a pet, for a while.

I took an old takeout container, poked some holes in it, and put it in there.  I put in enough water so it filled but an 8th of an inch of the very bottom, since spiders still need water to drink, and tomorrow shall find grass an stuff to put in there as well... but what about food?  I know spiders eat insects, but how often would I worry about feeding the thing?

I hear crickets chirping like crazy outside, but don't want to wander out since I know there ae a few dozen orb spiders weaving webs outside, all over, haphazardly, and I already ate enough spider silk today to sent my skin crawling off my bones.

Really, all you need is a big-ish, taller than wide container, as long as he has his web, and has room to make a big one, he should be fine. They eat insect about their size, but cant catch it, it has to get caught in their web first. So small flying insects are good. Mist the web lightly every morning or so so he can drink.

Pretty much what I did when I had a orb weaver. Personally I would feed it a decent sized insect every 4-5 days.

By big-ish taller container, would one of those larger containers used for take-out chinese soup suffice, or bigger than that?

I would go a little bit bigger than that.

I mean, push comes to shove, if I can't find anything bigger, would it be "acceptable for the time being"?

EDIT: IDEA!  Take TWO of these containers, and crazy glue them together to form one bigger container, poke airholes at top or some way of gtting insects and water spray in, and fill the bottommost 8th of it with dirt leaving 7/8ths of it for the spider to use.  [without including any foliage, and twigs and stuff I may add in]

Unless it's Spider bro, not worth it. Just drop it in a blender and put it on smoothy or something.
