Why is there a Temp folder?

I found 3 temp folders in 3 directories in my machine, Windows, User folder, and Internet Browser.
Just wondering why there is a Temp folder when it's completely useless.

If you dont have a temp folder, your harddrive will fill up with youtube videos etc because it has to download them to play them.
Same with Flash games, websites, and yeah. Pretty much all the websites you goto is temporarily stored on your machine.

No lol. You're thinking of RAM I'm pretty sure. The files aren't actually stored on any of your hard disks.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure those are useless. I don't think it's worth deleting them as if they are needed again then they just get re-made. They might be used during installations or things like that, I think.

When you visit a site, everything is downloaded locally onto your hard drive within a temp folder which is deleted when your instance ends (ie; when you close your browser) or when you restart your computer.

RAM is used for information that needs to be processed too quickly for it to be stored on your hard drive. Generated files and information are used by the ram, and if your memory capacity is maxed out, it goes over to your virtual memory.

Well I didn't literally mean that it's physically downloaded on the RAM, just that it's used temporarily for videos and shit or w.e. I have never found folders on my computer that are downloaded from browser or anything like that temporarily though. Assuming that you're right, which you probably are, I guess they're just downloaded somewhere else in a folder with a different name? I would like to know where my 50 tabs are temporarily downloaded lol.

This is used by the operating system and programs (individually or in the system one) to store data of temporary nature on the local disk (harddisk/ssd/etc) which is normally persistant media.

While these files are cleaned periodically on most systems, some can store for extended periods of time depending on application / operating system preferences.

And for you sabb, the tabs are probably cache'd in your browser's working directory, assuming chrome i think its C:\Users\WINDOWS USER NAME\AppData\Local\Chrome\User Data\Default
