GB = Gigabyte = 1024 Megabytes
Gb = Gigabit = 1024 Megabits
A bit is 1/8 of a byte.
What google fiber is promising is not 1024 MB, but an eighth of that; 128MB and that makes sense since they claim that their service is a hundred times faster than todays internet, and I highly doubt anyone here has a 10 megabyte/s connection.

Wow I thought it was 1GB. What's all the hype about if it's only 128MB? I have 12 MB net and I have a couple of friends that already have 100MB net.

All ISP's advertise their internet speeds as megabits. Your friend probably only has a speed of 12.5 megabytes.
