Sleep mode vs. Shutting down?

Which is better, sometimes I don't feel like shutting down my whole computer since it would be more convenient for me to get back on later. Also, will leaving it in sleep mode overnight bad?
Samo:
Leave it off. Screw your convenience. I shit all over your convenience. Leaving it on would be louder, giving you worse sleep, it's not good for your hardware and your power bill will slightly rise change.
Don't waste it just for a faster start up.

He's saying sleep mode.. As in, sleeping his computer. The computer doesn't stay running.
Anyways, I would just consider Hibernating it. If you have 2GB on your HDD, then do that. It's using a lot less power than sleep mode, and you can get back on just as fast.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that feature after Windows 7.

Sleep mode wakes up a lot faster. For me, I just tap a key and my computer comes back on.
