Anyone play the game? If you don't, I'll give you a brief run down.
Credit to cold who made the description.
I feel like I can give a pretty thorough interview since I played WC for 5-6 years and LoL since last year.
First, have you played Warcraft III? If so, are you familar with the AoS genre, (The most well known AoS being DotA) because that's basically what LoL is.
If you haven't played WC, LoL is essentially a game where two teams attempt to push into the other base.
Here's a picture I found on teh interweebz.
That shiny thing in the middle of the picture is what each team is trying to defend.
There are 3 'lanes' which are like pathways to the enemy base. One in the middle, and one for the top and bottom.
Each lane has pathways connecting themselves to each other. In between these pathways and lanes, there is an area of forest with very thin paths through it. This is referred to as the 'Jungle' and is home to several camps of AI monsters which you can attack and kill for gold/exp.
Each lane has two towers. One in the middle of the map, and one in between the base and the far tower. These towers act as guardians against the enemy team trying to push into your base. Early on they will stop any attack with ease, so your tower is usually a safe haven.
Later on in the game, players are stronger and can start pushing lanes by destroying your towers. Sometimes they will even be strong enough to 'tower dive' which is when they kill you at your own tower and tank the tower damage.
Once you destroy 2 towers in any lane, you can push to the final base, which is raised upon a stone area. Then there is a final tower and an inhibitor, which you destroy to spawn extremely strong minions in that lane. The nexus is the building in the picture. If you destroy that, your team wins.
Teams are 5v5, but on Twisted Treelines (Another map) teams are 3v3. Each player picks a 'hero' which levels up from level 1 to level 18. You kill minions which are small units controlled by each team's AI. These minions spawn in each lane continually and push until killed. Killing a minion gives you gold, but you can exp just by hovering around dying enemies.
With levels you can level your abilities up to 5, and you can level your ultimate ability 3 times. Each hero has 4 unique abilities and a unique passive they start with.
With gold you can buy items which makes your hero stronger. Some items give damage, some give armor, magic resistance, health, dodge%, crit%, movement speed, etc, etc.
When your hero dies, you have a respawn timer generally 10-60 seconds long, then you will respawn at your base. Dying is not the end of the world, but the enemy hero will gain lots of gold and exp.
Here's a link to the LoL forum. At the top there is a link if you are new to the game. It should lead you to a download link.
