Hey guys. I need help with choosing a GPU. I'm planning on buying a GTX550 but don't know which brand to buy(Asus, Evga, Pny, etc.) Can someone help me with this?
EDIT:Price Range is $150 the most and my computer only has a 460 Watt PSU.

:)

What's your budget? For the price range of the 550ti the GTX 460 is much faster, for a tiny bit more. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130749

Oh, and of course you should read my guide  ;)

Just asking but how much power does the 460 require?

The gtx 460 requires a 450 watt power supply.

Another great video card around $150 is the Radeon 6850. It performs like a beast, but it requires at least a 500 watt power supply :/

Supertoaster knows his GPU stuff well.
Something like a 440 is more than enough if you are using it mostly for Source games.
For Skyrim and BF3 a 460/560 would get you on top of your game. Anything more is just a waste.
Just make sure your power supply is good enough.

Unless he is going to do a lot of overclocking I wouldn't spend the money for it. My Asus 460 overclocks from 700 to 950 easily and keeps fairly low temps.

If you get an nvidia card, dont hope for any bitcoin mining ( not that I do it ). Those cards perform horrendously at mining.

I'd suggest 6800ish series radeon, just to spite all the nvidia fags here. You know what they say either way, ati has no drivers and nvidia burns your house down.

>EDIT: I've got MSI, hasnt let me down. Pretty much anything is fine EXCEPT XFX. BURN XFX. You pay for the door hanger thing that comes in the box, really.

MSI is a good brand too look for, gives 3 year warranty on most cards, enhances gpu speed on some cards, will provide help when needed, comes with alot of tools on Driver cd, and so on.

Evga is also good, Warrantys and so on.

MSI, Nvidia, and Evga is some of the most powerful GPU card producers, and Warranty givers.

I've actually ran a 500w video card on a 400w power supply, never had any problems.. ;D

Also, when you look for cards, you must look for certain features/requirements. Such as, PCI, PCI-E(Express), if your motherboard doesn't have these slots, or your power supply, and your vid card requires it, it won't work. Some video cards require a (24 + 4) Pin Mainboard Connecter to get full power, Again if your board, PSU, only has (24) pin mainboard connector, you won't get full power. Some video cards use (4) pin mainboard connector, some (4 + 2) pin mainboard connectors..

High Pixel shader, 3.0 to 4.0 is very nice when playing high-end games. Open GL helps on some High-End games that use it.

So as you can see, a whole lot of factors you need to look for. Would be more helpful if you posted your PSU.
