Thinking of buying a laptop

Hey everyone, im thinking about buying a new laptop and, since i dont really know much about compiters and laptops, i was wondering if anyone here could help me.
Im looking for a multi purpose laptop for around£400-500 ( or less of course)
Any type of help would be much appreciated
