Also, here is a list between me and my friends.
I left out the lower tiers because there might be some controversy.
This is all our opinions anyways.

I think Gurren Lagann needs to move to a higher tier...

I liked Evangelon a fair amount, however the ending kinda made my brain go wtf just happened.

I'll check out the other two they look rather interesting.
I'd like to second kyuubi's recommendation of Planetes, it's somewhat slow to build, but it has a pretty compelling story, but it portrays the best space physics out of any anime that I have seen.

Let me put it like this for you, Shinji thinks about shit while animations are constantly looped and recycled, there's a funny scene and then he finally realizes that he is somebody and can love himself, getting over his depression.

Evangelion is one of my favorites, it would have easily been perfect if the budget wasn't wasted on the 3 or so pointless episodes with the angel battles, or if Kawrou never existed. Seriously, the most he ever did was pleasing the fangirls as they ______

Aside from that, Planetes was awesome, anything with a space setting is great.

Anyone else here actually collect their stuff?

I understood what happened, I just didn't like the presentation. Not saying it's bad, just the way they did it wasn't my cup of tea. Main thing I didn't like about it is it stood out in stark contrast to the rest of the series. While I understood for the most part why he did it. I just felt there were more subtle and clever ways to go about it rather than have a giant epilepsy fest.

I have a few shows collected, though I tend to go for hulu and the like first, as its pretty convenient, and really only resort to downloading if I cant source it from other methods. If I know I like the series I will usually buy the DVD's, I have quite a few DVD sets, like last exile, Blue submarine No. 6, Outlaw Star, etc.
