Title: The Legend of Zelda - Link's Return
Post by: ledjohnny on September 04, 2011, 09:23:53 PM
Hey Zelda fans! I'm making a Zelda game modeled after A Link to the Past.
If you want to help or leave a suggestion, feel free to do so.

Here is the link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11553857/Zelda%20Game/Zelda.exe (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11553857/Zelda%20Game/Zelda.exe)

And if people who have tested it could please post and confirm its validity, well that would be great. (Cake, Juan, etc)

Lol Cake :D. On a serious note it is virus-free, will not perform any malicious action on your computer. I also fixed a small sound bug and re-uploaded.

Well, I tried going to the door to the north. Couldn't pass. Went to the door to the east. Couldn't pass. Went to the door on the west. Went to a completely white screen. :C

Also, you should make the sound system a .nsf player. Have a smaller file size, and make it sound authentic to a GBA/NES. I'd be able to compose for you if you went down that path anyways. c:

The room to the left or west is a blank grey room, the enemies will be next. If anyone has dungeon room suggestions, feel free!
And Snivy your compositions + Zelda = eargasim.

Same thing that Snivy was talking about happened to me.
Except it closed on me after the white screen was up for a moment.

It's really more of a demonstration/proof of concept. Led explained that there isn't much aside from that room.

/facepalm

Anyways, so far it looks great!
the only thing that bothers me is not being able to move diagnol (up+left)
but idk if thats fixable or not.

Yea, other were talking about the whole diagonal walking. Magic suggested using the Q key for Up+Left, E for Up+Right, then Z and C.
This is possible, I'll take a look at it later when I'm finished with my homework.

Sorry for double post, I assure you it's relevant!

Diagonal-moving has been added, thanks Axule for your input. To move diagonal use Q,E,Z, and X. Now on to enemies, then dungeon rooms.

Mostly rip them, I found some good sprite sheets (if anyone wants the link just ask). But creation is also possible, and would be encouraged.

It has great potential for sure.

Considerably big update, added the shield (F key) bounces enemies and protects yourself. Also added the first moving-enemies! Then enemy I added is a floor fucker I mean sucker.
So now the main focus is more enemies and dungeon rooms, so throw all your designs/ideas into this thread!

And thanks Cable!

P.S. Updates are downloaded using the original link.

Hmm, right now me and Led are going over this one bug.

Does it happen to anyone else that when you die, it keeps asking you if you want to restart? And when you click yes, the message and death noise pops up again leaving no option but no, which exits out of the game.

Nvm, fixed it.

Experimental test!!! I changed diagonal movement, so now you can move diagonal with just the W and A keys, etc. Here is the link, notice it is different than before (I still have the original in case something goes wrong.)

And Snivy, sorry if I seem preoccupied. I promise I am working on a solution for massive sound files and the like.

I think I'd be able to use milkytracker and give you .xm's if you want.

It wouldn't be as accurate to the NES's hardware, but it'd sound a fuckload better then converted .wav's, and it would be much smaller in filesize.

If I ever get the chance, I'll see what I can do in making like dungeons and such.
Right now I'm occupied with school, but I should be free over the weekend (other than work).
Let me know what you want and I'll try my best.

Sounds great! After school today I'll take a look. Thanks!

And Axule, I'm in the same boat (except work) this weekend I can get a lot done.
BTW, it's only been a week in the making! :)

Guess you can say it's part of the OST.

(And ya, this is what I was working on in TS3. c; )

New update! There's now a menu system that needs items and a cursor, but the germ of it is there.

Also Snivy did a damn good job on the palace theme!
I'm happy that Cable can help, I've heard he is good with design.

What do you guys think of the intro?
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11553857/Zelda%20Game/Resources/Intro.mp4 (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11553857/Zelda%20Game/Resources/Intro.mp4)

I think it needs a better sound effect with the sword clashing against the shield.
Snivy do you think you could make a small song for the intro?
I plan on extending the after key frames to about 20 seconds.

I kind of want to the oracle of seasons/ages overworld theme for that.

Great idea! The intro video is 8 seconds long, where should I begin/cut the song? Or should I just make it longer?

Also a totally re-vamped menu, check it out!

Currently working on dialogue and save game slots. Some big bugs with the saving, I expect to fix them soon.

Also a friend of mine IRL is beginning work on the dungeons.

Just to prove I'm still working on the OST,
(view in HD if you can, experimenting with new audio codec as well when I upload)

Gravity Beeeeeeeeetle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hThkG3KQFJU#ws)

This is really just an example of me experimenting with the implementation of default windows VST's into XM's.

I'm just doing this one megaman song for fun. I'm still working on Majoras Mask's Termina Field/Overworld and Deku Palace c:

Also, I might make a seperate thread for this once I finish those two, considering I still have a lot of songs to cover. Ha.

Completely changed the starting level, which is arguably not that important, but it has a nice level now :D
