Title: Overclocking
Post by: John on May 14, 2011, 02:12:05 AM
Hi..
So I've searched some stuff on the internets about overclocking....
Seems quite simple but i don't know how i get the number of frequency and the voltage right, kinda scared to fry my CPU
If anyone could give me some infos or a handy tutorial I'd appreciate it
Also:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
any other infos needed?

That CPU is easy as shit to OC

Just do exactly as I say

I had an Athlon 64 X2 4600+(2.4)
I got that to 3GHz before it hit max TDP

What you have to do is, Slowly increase the FSB (5mhz each turn) until it turns off, then up the voltage one notch and continue until it won't go up anymore

Your CPU will get to 3.2GHz comparable to mine(higher stock clocks)

If you need help, call me

//Your FSB seems pretty weak... try incrementing to 250MHz(in 5mhz bursts)

Also 65W? That could be trouble, mine is 95W...

Actually, I do know of some programs that bypass factory locked overlocking. I took my 1.8 Sempron and OC'd to 2.2,

You can try AMD overdrive (http://forums.techarena.in/windows-software/1092999.htm), I think it might let you OC. But yeh, it's not very recommended that you OC with software as BIOS OC'ing is a bit more stable. But it'll have to do.

I looked for some OC software before, didnt find anything that works, ill try AMD overdirve, hopefully it does.
Anyways, thanks for the help

Tends to be unstable when applying 600 extra mhz at startup suddenly

Well, there are 2 more that I know of. nTune (http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.54.00.html) and Rivera tuner (http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner). They're both designed for a Nvidia GPU, but it might work if you have an ATi or some sort. But it did work with my Geforce 8400gs.

I've personally used nTune before and it works as long as you don't go crazy and like, overclock to 3.3 with it. But what magic said is true, it can bump up a much higher mhz speed when starting. So try not to blame me/the program if your pc gets unstable.

I've already given him MSi Afterburner and OC'd him to a stable stance

overclocking gone wrong FAIL (by willy) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t__1dFBIIXg#)
Damaged in another part of the motherboard...

only an idiot can destroy their computer by overclocking honestly, unless they have the money to not care and want to find the absolute max hz they can get.
i can clock to 4.7 with all default setting. no change to fsb or vcore. adjust fsb to 105 (from 100), since 105 is my max, and up my vcore to highest RECOMMENDED (forget the max, shit can break... dont risk 350USD for bragging rights) and clock my multiplier to 49-50x, 5.2ghz

fkn i7 K series with their unlocked multiplier

I really want an Intel

SO good

but not enough money to buy 1155 SLI board AND an i5 2500K :C

rather just get new SLI board, go SLI, then get 1090T when it gets cheap(er), around xmas time all will be built

:D

andd yes most of the "failed overclock" video's are from people who do not know what they are doing...

have a look at the watercooling experts, they get a pentium overclocked to 5GHz fine

2600k not 2500
though i could prolly get over 5.2 if i wanted, but since i have no need for... well ever, 5.2 without risks is good for me. still chills at ambient temp +1 and hottest ive ever gotten is 55
with fans at minimum
and people that fal overclock are not people who dont know what they are doing. i could easily get 5 without knowing how to use a hammer. people who fail overclocking are just plain stupid. check what the MAX your cpu+mobo+memory (though memory doesnt affect us sb people :3) can do, and dont try past there

Yes to overclock you need to have a compatible MB, you don't need to have an IQ of 200 to figure that out.
