Title: Minecraft map seeding thread!
Post by: ursus on February 23, 2011, 09:31:04 PM: As of Minecraft beta 1.3, you can now put in a "map seed" when making a new level.
What this means is, the level will be specifically fit to that string of text/numbers (But not correlated in any way).

What you all do is,
1. Start a new game in Minecraft
2. For the seed, put in your forum name
3. Explore, and post interesting screenshots

and magic, just use that pingas'd MC launcher everyone else is using. I actually prefer it over the legit version since it doesn't force you to update.

Notch implented the new mechanic.
It allows you to enter sentences/words/numbers when creating a new world that create random effects based on some complex calculus only asians can understand.

No, that's the thing. The syntax is based specifically on your input.

So, the text you enter determines the shape of the map.

What

From what I've seen, it just generates a /slightly/ different map. I can see the use if someone can break down the syntax so their map can be an arctic wonderland, or a tropical island, but that's about it.

At that pinpoint location is just a small hill at one end, and redwood trees, you can't see anything from that point.

Memo it turned out different for you because you probably used a lowercase "I" instead of uppercase.

EDIT:
Try the seed "New World".
I'm too lazy t take pics, but it's got loads o' giant mountains.

EDIT 2:

EDIT 3: "LOADSO'MONEY" has lots of hills also, along with one giant one with loads o' caves in it.

EDIT 4: Try "Dylan'salmost7inches". loads o' awesome mountains, and the giant one near spawn has 9001 caves all through the entire thing.
Best part is at -36,67-229.

You'd either have to have direct FTP access to the server, or some kind of application that dumps the map to a clientside file.
