Title: The status of the Temp servers (Wirebuild is now LIVE!)

Alrighty, some of you may have noticed, that temp wire and TTT are indeed up. However they are currently passworded.
There is a reason for this, and no they have not become only for the use of an exclusive club.

Me and Minic are in the process of getting the servers completely ready for your consumption. We worked till late last night getting all of the back-end of the servers ready. But will still have a lot of the game-mode settings and addons to deal with.

I expect we will take the passwords off and make them live either tonight, or tomorrow morning.

As for why they are not up yet... Well, coolz had 7 years to get the RND servers into the state they were, and we have spent 1 day. We are doing a serious amount of work to get as much functionality working as possible but this takes a bit of time.

Things I can confirm for you about my servers right now:

- The user ranks will remain, so there shouldn't be any need to re-promote anyone
- All of the dupes on wirebuild have also been transferred over
- Game mode settings will be identical or extremely similar to the regular servers

The IP addresses are:


Wirebuild:     randomtemp.servegame.com:27015 (Under Construction)

TTT:              randomtemp.servegame.com:27016  (Is LIVE!)

Remember that randomtemp.servegame.com acts just like an IP address


I thank you all for the patience with this whole ordeal, and I hope you will have a great time playing on the temp server!

PS: This 6 month downtime would also be a good time for you to learn your way around wire-build  ;D

It looks like the servers will be delayed for a little bit more in getting it live.

We've had a few hiccups in implementing some of the normal RnD functions than what we were expecting, and naturally it's taken additional time.


The servers will be up as soon as we can get them, so stay tuned!  :)

The password is on the server, because the server isn't ready to be made public yet (we still have a few things to get working)

Once the server fully operational, the password will be removed, and everyone will be free to use it as much as they wish.  ;)

TTT is pretty much ready to go, just getting the last of the custom weapon stuff done, and mapchanger stuff, then we should only need to do a bit of testing and then it should be able to go live after that.

ZS is ready to go, I just need to get sourcebans linked. Thanks to minic for helping me with some database related issues last night, ranks and everything will be the same as well.

Rotation will go up a couple days after zs has been online. A few things to note is that the zs will only have 24 player slots, and that it will be running the new version of ZS. Once I get it online, I'll make a thread where people can post what changes they'd like to see on the gamemode. Currently, everything is at their default values.

So yeah. Hopefully ZS will be able to go online sometime later today.

I only have about ~40 maps from the official server uploaded right now. I'll leave it running with the current maps before adding more, just to make sure everything is running the way it should.

Can't wait for the tmp server - can't find Nexus's TTT server for some reason, one I used to frequent is always full, and the one I have found is FULL of mass RDMing fucks and little kid micspammers.  :trollface:

Custom in of itself isn't BAD, it's WHAT that specific stuff is, both conceptually and how it is coded, IMO.

Idk i don't like custom stuff because it divides players and encourages people to play for a hat, or play for the basic function of using your spray which is then deemed a 'privilege'...you know what I mean?
Plus it just looks ridiculous and idk why but for some reason annoys me :s

TTT is fully up and ready to go! (as far as we can tell)

I hope you enjoy the server, it was a suprising amount of work.


Minic did an amazing amount of work, he probably put in close to 90-100 hours of work onto the servers since last Wednesday, (to my pitiful 50 hours). So please give him a big thanks on a part of the community.

Everything should be similar/identical to the original random TTT (including the loading screen :D).


Wire should follow TTT in the next few days, so stay tuned!

Fixing the damage reduction to random levels, not original temp. levels.

We're running the latest public release of the gamemode, so keep in mind a LOT of thing will be different, and I'm expecting to make a LOT of changes in the following weeks.

I put it on there because people wanted to try it out, along with me. I have no functional copy of the old ZS gamemode, so it is "permanent" in the sense that it wont be changed until the official servers come online.

As I said previously, changes can be made to the gamemode like denying the use of the shop or changing round times.

I say the new ZS is allright, though not as good as the old. (the guns are slightly more accurate) But anyways, WE NEED MORE PEOPLE PLAYING! Having no players is very depressing.

I really like the new ZS. It still has couple flaws...
Hit detection is weird - No, it's ridicilous. The width and lenght of it is just overkill, IMO. You can pretty much just hold attack button to kill a survivor. This makes melee fighting impossible. And melee delay is ridicilous too. Most of the weapons have one second swing, which is very annoying and makes the melee fighting even more harder. Also, the gamemode removes ammo crates. It's just silly. Some maps really need those ammo crates...
I would play it but it's too hard...

Completely agree with the hitboxes thing, and the melee weapon limit.  1 swing / sec may be too little depending on the specific weapon you are wielding - makes sense with heavier melee weapons, but not for EVERY melee weapon for fuck's sake.

Other than that, I LOVE the new ZS.

I actually love the new ZS. I'm beginning to get back into playing Gmod because of it, if only the temp server wasn't so...empty.

Although like previously stated, it could use some work on the hitboxes and some underpowered weapons, but other then that...fucking amazing.

Ill go through and edit melee weapons to be a little more dynamic in terms of speed-to-dmg ratio. As for hitboxes, theres not much I can do except for reduce global zombie damage by some percentage (~80ish seem fair?). Im not able to access a computer for the time being, so if someone wants to make a "Zs requests" thread, that'll make it easier for me to follow what you guys want done.

I have a few suggestions for your Zs server, Snivy.
Fast zombie/headcrabs damage should be lowered to 5, perhaps headcrabs could be slowed down a little too.

I've also heard people saying that chems run too fast and I think that humans should out run or run at the same speed as chems.

You could also make the speeds/damage and such more similar to those who were in the last version of Zs and see how that would change the gameplay. Right now I am not 100% sure if those changes would improve or make the balance/gameplay worse.

Yeah there's never anyone in temp ttt, but usually ~10 people in ZS, so it's quite the opposite.
I have adjusted and like the new ZS mod (both sides are now fun to play), but 80% of the time humans lose.

I guess the question is, should the mod be made to fit the maps, or the maps adjusted to fit the mod?

For yesterday, from about 4 am till 11 pm (my time) there was an average of 4-14 players the entire day. So I don't know what you guys are talking about.

If there is no-one in the server, just wait a bit and invite people. Once you get 2-3 players more players start joining pretty quick.


Main issue is, most of the people who played ttt before weren't members of RnD, and thus don't know that there is a temp server.

Personally I just decided to take a break while the transition to the temp servers was happening so I could play some games I hadn't gotten to. I'll probably be back soon, depends on when I feel like getting back. c:

Edit: My post sounds kind of out of place in this thread, but it does explain why I at least haven't been in the temp servers. A small part of the semi-emptiness.

We DO have 2 versions of Crazy Cube - crazy_cubes, and crazy_cubes_b1 - both of which are fun, but honestly we DO need to modify the voting system a little bit, we picked one variant or another quite a bit within a couple of hours last night, and after the first 3 times of voting for some variations of the map it got a bit irritating.

I mean, the Trators get boring gear, the games are monotonous, and the karma system we have is just terrible. The game is "run around until you die and hope you become Traitor so that you can kill everybody because people are afraid it might not be you". The server I was playing on didn't have any amount of RDM we did (save for joke RDM, which we all feel like doing sometimes and never got to a troublesome amount), and there's usually somebody on the server who can file a report, if not kick or ban.

We should use this server as a testbed for new ideas, so let's see how the server does with a more lenient karma system (say, +75 a round) or without permakarma. If both ideas work, we hold a poll for what we keep.

Also, usually when a VIP is on all goes well, but now I just keep hearing about people "rdm'ing" if no authority is present.

Agreed. I came here because the TTT server I played was down. I love this place because of you guys and wouldn't leave now, but TTT can get very boring and the karma very harsh. On the other server the karma went up to 1800 with people starting at 1000. This gave buffer room for mistakes, and the karma wasn't to harsh to begin with. I don't remember too well as this was when I was just starting to learn TTT, but I don't think there was much of any RDM there, and the admins were on quite frequently and could deal with any trouble, so it worked there. There were also custom items, but I don't miss them to much. They did add some interesting possibilities if done right though. Some of them were the Jihad, Golden Gun, Turret, Defibrillator, AWP, Chell's Boots, and more. Not suggesting we add any of those, but if properly implemented they could add some freshness to the TTT.

Sooo yeah. I basically just restated your post in my own experiences. ^.^

I'd play this (the average Guest on TTT is usually smarter than the average Guest on ZS), but you guys know what my stance is.

Right now only low karmas get rdm'ed sometimes, so you just have to pay attention to the scoreboard and not kill a 1k karma who kills a 10 karma

become lenient with karma and high karmas will get rdm'ed, too.

If you RDM more than one person you are automaticly kicked, and if you come back and do it again
the kick will just keep exstending the amount of time the player is banned

No, it won't. I've played on tons of servers and the RDM level in each one was about the same, if not lower, than the level fo RDM in our servers.

Those servers have constant admins on to kick them on the spot, so they all know not to.
Since we don't have so many admins/vips that's where the karma system comes in handy.

Also, @gamefreak, if someone takes the time to get evidence and post it, thank them.  don't whine about their format, and furthermore, blame improper format on causing high rdm levels, that just discourages reporters.

I can also see when people get banned, It's not like I cntrl-F "rdming" I look through the whole log and can see everyone's chat.

In addition I also know who is banned, it's not like I will be going weeks in the past looking for violators, I will generally just check the day when I choose to.

One player in TTT told me he will report me because I rdm him. I saw him in a house with a sniper trying to headshot us. I got him from behind and he got angry, threatening me with a ban.

So long as it takes into account the occasional accidentally killing somebody [like yesterday when I killed somebody in richs2apt who walked in front of an unid'd and then proceeded to set the trap off with me in front], it's a cool thing - and much appreciated.  If we're banning anybody JUST for killing team mates without taking into account the reason why, wouldn't that be counter-productive?

I think, people are forgetting what RDM is....

Killing one person isn't rdm, I mostly look for three things.
1: killing T buddies
2: killing the detective as an innocent.
3: Attempting to go around and just kill all the innocent, or repeadedly kill one person.

This stuff were someone makes a poor conclusion and kills an innocent. Isn't Rdm that is the point of the karma system, to punish people who do that, not the ban system.

And currently our existing ban system is in place, it for whatever reason didn't seem to be doing enough. So I felt a little more advanced measures were justified.

Is there anything we can do about the hitboxes. I can't count how many times I shot someone in the face/chest/neck and it didn't register. Also when I try to use the scope for a headshot, I miss completely even if he's standing still.

It is also the status of the temp servers in general. It was said ranks would stay the same and re-promotions wouldn't be needed, so I figured that I should put it here that I would need it. =P
